A little too old...

Does anyone know exactly how old Sandra's character (Mary Horowitz) is supposed to be in this movie? She is over 10 years older than Bradley Cooper... It just doesn't make sense OR was it supposed to be that way? Although she is beautiful and doesn't look that old, it reminds me of Sarah Jessica Parker...an old actress wanting to play a cute, pretty girl. Sandra is sooo much better than that!!!!

OMG, I just saw that Sarah Jessica Parker is actually younger than Sandra (by @ 1 year - big deal, but still). WOW! I never would have guessed!!!

Lastly, I do have to say that I REALLLLLY liked this movie!!!

I haven't seen the movie yet, I just watched a preview this afternoon, but...

That was my very first thought. Sandra Bullock is very beautiful, but she looked a little too old for this type of role.

Sandra looked around Bradley's age in this movie. I know she is more than 10 years older than him in real life, but she looks very youthful so I didn't see a problem. I assumed the characters were around the same age too.

we thought the two characters were supposed to be around the same age (and it appeared they were, to us). I would love to be as beautiful as SB at any age! Anyway... we think the point was that "Mary" was at an age where she was starting to think that life passed her up - her clock was ticking...but she was hopeful to find what everyone wants - love, acceptance, and understanding...someone to share life with. She realized that she was different, but wanted to please her parents by keeping 'yet another date' thinking it would bomb - then she saw Steve, liked what she saw - and was overzealous.
Seriously, have you never been introduced to someone who you instantly went ga-ga for and found it hard to control your actions. If not...maybe one day you'll get it :)

Ages were never mentioned in the movie so it doesn't matter.

Besides, since when do people only go on blind dates or date, marry, etc. with people their own age? People date people who are 10, 20 years older or younger than they are so age is only a number and wasn't even a factor here.

Also, if age were to come into play in the movie, it would only reinforce that she has lived an eccentric, somewhat sheltered or clueless life and is finally getting out, i.e. going on a blind date and making friends, which she never seemes to have. She did say it had "been a while" since she had gotten some while talking to the fireman at the beginning and that she had had "liaisons", so she wasn't totally sheltered.

I too think they look the same age and since the character's ages are never mentioned I don't think it's an issue. However, I must add that there are so many movies with a older male actor paired with a younger actress (Crazy Heart coming in Feb is pairing up Jeff Bridges 50 with Maggie Gyllenhaal 32) why not the other way around???

I think Brad Cooper is going to look younger for a long, long time! That's just his look.

Sandra was perfect for this role in every way. Funny, charming and beautiful. I put off seeing this movie because it got kicked around pretty bad, but I thought it was completely entertaining.

Well a lot of male actors are partnered up with much younger female costars in many movies so it's actually kind of cool that that was swapped here. Besides if I didn't know her age I never would suspect she was older than Bradley Cooper by that much at all. They appear to be close in age.

Plus, the actors ages aren't necessarily the characters ages. If Sandra looked Bradley's age, you should be able to accept the characters and leave reality behind. That's what movies are after all... an escape for a few hours.

I see Stupid People...

My guess is the character is probably in her mid-thirties. Bullock was 45 when this was released. I thought she looked good, but her face looked like she'd had work done, esp. around her cheeks. Still pretty though.
