Where can I see this?

I would really like someway to see this. Netflix seems to have never heard of it. I don't want to buy it, I just want to rent it. Anyone help me out? Does Blockbuster have it? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers!

Are you in North America or the UK? Most Chinatowns in major cities have it available for sale and sometimes for rent as a DVD in Region 0 NTSC or PAL. There are several editions that can also be purchased from Hong Kong. I have a Region 0 2 disc deluxe edition from there. It is a very good film with high production values.

I live in CA. I don't want to buy it, just rent it. What did you like about it exactly? How's the story & the acting. You said good production values, but unless there is a good script that doesn't matter to me. Thanks for replying!
Cheers!

The film makers put some real hard work into this production and it shows. The screenplay and script are excellent. If you can understand some Mandarin without reading subtitles your viewing experience will be much better. There is a Cantonese dubbed audio track also. Costuming, props, art decoration, and cinematography are all very good. Realistic battle scenes and SFX were done by the guys who did Band of Brothers and Tae Guk Ki. Some knowledge of the historical period of the Chinese Civil War of 1948 to the present day is useful in understanding the movie.

In the San Francisco bay area you may be able to rent it from Mom&Pop Chinese video stores if they have it. Be sure it's a Region Free NTSC edition. It only goes for about $5-$10 depending if you have to resort to buying it. Thankfully this movie focuses more on the concepts of comradeship, loyalty, duty and honor without dwelling on communist ideology and can be enjoyed without feeling like you've just been force fed a ton of totalitarian propaganda. There are actually a couple of recognizable Mainland Chinese actors in the cast. The actor in the lead role got a real career boost from critical recognition of the quality of his performance.

I liked Tae Guk Gi Quite a bit, in fact liked it better the second time I saw it. It was a really interesting story about the Koreans from their point of view. My only complaint was I wish they had left it all in the past. Thanks though for the info, I'll keep my eyes open for it somewhere. I just found that it has been added to Netflix to be released who knows when so it's in my Queue now! Yay! Thanks again for the help!

Your welcome and hope you have a positive viewing experience.

Tae Guk Gi definitely was influenced much by Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan with the Korean War section sandwiched between the two present day segments. Spielberg pretty much set the bar on cinematic style and expectations on war moves with SPR. SPR, TGG, and BoB influence are all evident in Assembly.
