What's title of that book?

Several times a Turkish book is shown in the film, first I think it's Nejat who recommends it to his father. Does somebody know the title of the book? What is about? Has it already been translated to English or to some other languages?

reply

The book itself is called "Demircinin Kizi" (Turkish title, translated into "Die Tochter des Scmieds" in German and lastly, "The Daughter of the Blacksmith" in English), and it's written by a German called Selim Özdogan. I guess that makes it a Turkish book written by a German - how convenient for this movie ;)

I don't find any English information about either the book or the author though. I too would like to read it.

Buy it in German: http://www.amazon.de/Die-Tochter-Schmieds-Selim-%C3%96zdogan/dp/3351030398

Thanks a lot, I'll check it out.

A small correction: Selim Özdogan actually wrote the book in German (published in 2005) and it was later translated into Turkish.
It got very good reviews (in Germany, don't know about Turkey) when it came out.

I haven't read "Die Tochter des Schmieds" yet, but I read his first novel "Es ist so einsam im Sattel, seit das Pferd tot ist." (lit. "It's so lonely in the saddle since the horse is dead") and loved it.
A bit of info on the author (taken from http://www.selimoezdogan.de):
He was born in 1971 and lives in Cologne.
He also wrote a novel that is based on Fatih Akin's film "Im Juli". If I remember correctly, Fatih Akin, who's a fan (and maybe friend?) of Özdogan, actually asked him whether he wanted to do that.

reply

Yep, an interview reveals they are friends. Akin even said that he put in this book to advertise for his friends book :) Hope it gets an english translation after the US release in 2008.
