Annoying B*tch???

Good movie (even though it kinda reminds me of Gonzales Innaritu flicks). But one thing bothers me the most...
Im not sure if we were meant to sympathize for the women Ayten aka Gül. I dunno for me shes seems like a spoiled brat or is it just bad acting. I still dont get it...is she meant to be like an anti-hero(ine)? I know that her part is suppose to be a rebellic strong woman but still...its seems too overacted or something. I didnt felt she was worth risking the life to.
Something just doesnt fit.

I do sympathize with the guy though (the teacher). He seems "believable"

*pardon my english*

wow, I guess Im the only one

She is depicted as being rather self-righteous and not very intelligent. At the end she "repents," but I had forgiven a lot earlier because of her lesbianism and a couple of other reasons.

reply

I thought both lesbians were annoying and couldn't care for their characters any less than I did.

ENOUGH from the clown!!!!!!!!

reply

Not really. I think the acting was well done for the character, she was supposed to be a staunch communist revolutionary, emphasised by the fact of the spiel she was exercising to Lotte's mother. She was supposed to be stubborn and not listen to other people. She probably was also used to looking after her own back, due to the nature of what she was doing.

I didn't find her annoying, I admired her conviction to her beliefs, to which she sacrificed her own freedom for.

She was devastated that her girlfriend had been killed while helping her. Did you even notice that?

Getting pretty frustrated with the ignorant comments here. Fair enough, if you have had a comfortable life with no injustices and no reason to fight back, then yes, Ayten's choices and views on the world might seem alien to you.

Nope. Her acting sure didnt make an impact for me, thats the point

And people might be frustrated with your self-righteousness, a character trait they find annoying in Ayten as well. Her "convictions" basically leave no room for any other points of view and she's hostile to any type of thinking that doesn't conform to her own perspective, which frequently puts others in danger around her as she shows a general lack of appreciation for those who actually do help her. I don't find that particularly admirable.

Plus, her loss of freedom isn't some kind of sacrifice as she's simply caught trying to rn away. It's not like she's personally sacrificing herself to the cause. She then gladly accepts release, a normal human response, but selling it as "sacrificing her own freedom" is bit much.

As such, I found Ayten a selfish, self-centered, dogmatic individual more interested in her own interests and beliefs rather than the actual improvement of others. She's only willing to accept the world according to her own narrow point of view and demands others conform to and serve her needs. It's very, very easy to see why she is despised and it has nothing to do with your condescending sense of outrage about "ignorant" people.

I couldnt say it better, estratton422. Totally agree

reply

I agree. They met in a restaurant. WHo the f... take a beggar home??? without knowing anything about her???
I didn't understand that.

reply

Well...if one happens to be a budding young lesbean on the make at her college campus, and said budding young lesbean spots a swarthy militant type in a vulnerable position, the "knowing anything about her" is saved for a hopeful pillow talk session later on.

I'm just surprised that the two 'beans bothered to eat lunch in the cafeteria, when they were really craving fish tacos at home.

In all seriousness though, the above will hopefully be taken in stride as an attempt to interject lowbrow humor in a forum for a movie that couldn't be farther from lowbrow. I found the movie extremely tragic and sad, and although I will admit that at first I also found the character annoying, when considering her environment, her age, and other factors of the type of life she led I got it, and I also found many aspects of the actress' performance pretty moving.
