Uniforms

I am hoping that someone from the show will read this, as slim chance as it is. GET THE MEDALS RIGHT. People have died in the uniforms that you are portraying so make a damn effort. For Gods sake, I am a Private in the Army and I could help you ten times over.

In tonights episode, 8 JUN 09, Steve Bisley was wearing his medal rack upside down.

Don't even get me started on the SAS Troopers in the previous seasons.

On the whole it has been pretty good, don't let it slip now people.

There are limits to how accurate they can make the uniforms, since it's a crime for a civilian to impersonate a military officer.

This is an FAQ for all military dramas...

reply

That's incorrect. As long as it is for stage or screen uniforms, embellishments and awards can be worn in the correct fashion. There was an article about it in the Army paper a while ago. Someone else complained about it.

It's in ASOD's but I really cant be bothered looking it up!

I have to agree with kill tactular. There was an episode where a Leading seaman was without his 4 year medal. No one gets to Kellick in under 4 years, especially not an ET. The actors also wear two ensigns on their uniform. IRL we wear the ensign on our left shoulder and our unit patch on the right shoulder.

"The actors also wear two ensigns on their uniform. IRL we wear the ensign on our left shoulder and our unit patch on the right shoulder."

Since the movie "Hammersley" is not part of the rotating crew system that is used in the real patrol servic, they probably left out the unit (Ardent division for the Cairns ships) on purpose. When a Radio Technician comes to fix some problems for RO in one episode, he can be seen to wear the Ardent patch.

No offense to the people involved, but I'm pretty sure they had a lot of Navy support for this show. Including officers and sailors, ships, weapons, etc. The Navy should have picked up on that. Unless they're on a set for certain parts with no Navy.

reply

Exactly, that makes it even worse. They put a fair bit of effort into the Navy uniforms (and still get them wrong) yet whenever they portray Army it is a joke.

I saw who the advisors were in the credits once or twice. All LEUT and SUBLEUT. No wonder.
