there was a murder of a girl named Nicole Damatt in Vero Beach Fl 1996. Her killer was the female detective's son. Her name was Molly MacIntyre, which is similar to the character's name. I didnt get to see this movie, does anyone think this is a match?

Yeah sounds pretty close.

do you know how the girl died?

In the movie it was...SPOILER WARNING...rape, homicide, and then arson.

yes she was raped strangled then the apt set on fire. she was dating the brother of the killer.

Yeah in that case it is pretty close.

The murder raped, strangled, and then set the house on fire. Though the murder was her boyfriend.

Here is a link to the murder of Nicole Damatt. Patrick McIntyre, her killer and the brother of her boyfriend, never gave a reason why he killed her. But he did make a full confession to the killing and got life in prison. His mother quit the police force after the trial.
