Lifestyles of the NOT Rich + NOT Famous

OK, so I've now seen this film twice & while I have a few open questions, there are some things that I'm quite sure about.

Folks, Kate & Alex are NOT wealthy people! Calling them "upper middle class" is a stretch. Calling them "upper class" is preposterous. Yes, they're comfortable, but just.

References in some reviews to their "upscale antique store" are totally bogus. Upscale antiques do NOT include $700 vases & $5,000 dining room tables. And their apartment is NOT in "a stately East Village building." There's no doorman or lavish lobby, just an ordinary elevator up to a simple unadorned hallway.

As for Rebecca & Mary resenting the fact that Andra doesn't leave them her apartment, seems clear that Andra's able to stay as long as she does because she's living on the proceeds of the sale. Andra has no money to leave anyone.

Kate & Alex are NOT wealthy people. "Wealthy people" in NYC have inherited wealth, or they're Wall Street folks who get multi-million dollar bonuses... quarterly... So get a grip!

PS: SPOILER ALERT!!!

The girl with Down's Syndrome, her name is Abby (same as Kate's daughter), in fact, she's listed in the credits as "Abby #2." Helps explain why Kate starts crying in the Ladies Room, yes?

I think a person who can afford that apartment and buy the one next door has a comparatively higher income than the general population. Maybe "rich" by some city's standards.

Maybe "well off"? "comfortable"?
