Least deserving Best Actress Oscar winner ever?

Sandra Bullock ranks high if not at the very top of the list, along with Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Seriously? Are people still going on about this?

I wasn't aware that anyone has said anything about this in the past. Then again, I just saw this movie a few days ago and this is my first visit to this board. Either way, her mediocre and sometimes laughable performance was in no way worthy of an Oscar. I'd rank it down there with Roberts and Paltrow as I said.

Fair enough.

Discussing the film on the films discussion board...when will this madness end?!?

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?

Instead of Sandra perhaps Gabby Sidibe is the real winner. Another least deserving Best Actress winner is Meryl Streep for Thre Iron Lady. The real winner that year I say is Viola Davis.

IMO you cannot be further from the truth. She put on such a convincing performance that I was enthralled with the movie all the way through. C'mon. That scene where she confronts that African American thug with her "38 special" is just plain classic. The truth is, people are going to like certain actors and actresses while disliking others. So as far as opinions go, in this instance, they are purely subjective and of course, there is no science involved. Therefore I would suggest anyone who has a comment on the performance of anyone, should start with IMO. IMO .

Did you not hear that Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar for Silver Linings? Come on that was beyond retarded. The last thing people need to win awards for are unoriginal romcoms.

reply

This. She was the very definition of mediocre in that (mediocre) movie.

Hilary Swank in "Million Dollar Baby" was pretty undeserved. Also, going WAY back, Grace Kelly winning an oscar for "The Country Girl" was really undeserving as well.

I thought Sandra was fine, and it was a departure from other roles she's done. I don't mind her win.

Watch Mary Pickford in Coquette, that performance is infinitely worse.

Bullock was okay, though not the best performance that year.

May this find you happy and healthy.

Alright, everyone, take five (the band starts playing Brubeck).

I don't know about that. Sandra Bullock, notwithstanding her oversimplified character, is quite good in this film. A better screenplay would have done this wonders. My problem wasn't with the acting involved in this film.
