All Black People are Evil and All White people are Good

... Is the only message I got out of this story. Michael has had a troubled life because he's been around black people his entire life and when he gets adopted by a white family the grass gets greener for him and they even teach him how to play football and be successful. Sandra Bullock even goes to the hood where all black people live to confront the scary black people into leaving Michael Alone because they're bad people. I mean this movie was so stereotypical of hollywood it was hard to watch. I couldn't help but think white family inherits big black man and turns his life from being a thug to a football player. This was definitely a white feel good movie. Instead of being about a kid that focused on playing sports all his life to escape the chaos he dealt with and then getting adopted by a family that continued to encourage his natural abilities. What makes this movie ridiculous is that a lot of star athletes come from broken homes or "hoods" or low income environments etc. etc. but they don't seem to need a white family to make them "star athletes". I hated the most about this film is how negative the "hood" was portrayed with a group of gangsta's threatening Michael and trying to drag him down (crab behavior) because he had a chance at success. More typical white ideology.I don't think anyone supports homegrown athletes than the hoods they come from because they're like hometown heroes.

You know this movie is a true story it actually happened
You cant dismiss the truth.

And there is actually a very simalar movie made in south africa where a white child is thrown way and taken in by black people and the the white people are portrayed the way the black people is portrayed here

On both movies you are going to have people who are unhappy of the way they are portrayed

Thats why i watch movies with an opend mind bc if you dont your always going to find somethings to complain about.

Yes i just saw this the other day and I wouldn't be caught dead going into the black hood because i know i wouldnt be coming out alive. Anyway i thought there was a lot of courage on the Sandra bullokcs character to do what she said. That being said it is a true story. So im happy to see that there are good people out there..

reply

Yes exactly theres going to be good people and bad people in any race thats just the way it is

And it is a huge risk on your part to take in someone you dont know that well and the movie portrayed that really well.

Oh, quit exaggerating. Not every black neighborhood is a ghetto---I know that for a fact.

vanderwalt:

Actually, no----the story about Oher and the family he stayed with was changed for the screen. Michael Oher himself said that he didn't like how the film left out some important things about his life----like the fact that he actually stayed and lived with two black families before he wound up with the white family; the white family didn't teach him to play football---he had already been training for years before he even met them, and he did have a mother who was a drug addict, but who went rehab and cleaned herself up. He also said the only reason he had trouble in school was because his family was always moving around so much, he wasn't always in school long enough to complete his schooling. He also wrote his own biography, called I Beat The Odds---it's pretty good, and tells the story from his point of view.

So while it is a true story, it got changed to fit the "white savior" mold, regardless.

reply

Not exactly, the mom's snobby white friends weren't very supportive of her!

Plus, Mike has proven himself to be kind and protective of his family!

reply

Oh. come on, watching it now. It's neat. Sandra on a deserved Oscar in 2009 as did Natalie Portman the next year for BLACK SWAN.

And it is based on a
TRUE...STORY...!

I'm white and have no idea what "white ideology" is. Perhaps you need to educate me.
