turd movie

just watched this and low buget or not this was hopeless. story, acting, the lot.part of my life gone forever.nothing good to say of it.

reply

I'm sorry you thought the film was a turd. We'll try better next time. Just out of curiosity, what were some films you DID enjoy this year?

-Jeremy S (directurd of MURDER PARTY)

reply

i enjoyed mr brooks,shooter,fracture,1408,the prestige and pans labyrinth.not all this year i know but its when i saw them.by the way thought (directurd of MURDER PARTY) was class.

reply

If those were the kind of movies that you enjoy, why did you check this out. Just curious. Does sound like it wouldve been your cup of tea.

reply

only because imdb gave it quite good reviews,i can watch most types of movie.i just thought this one sounded good but imho it was not.

reply

Mmm, that's your problem right there. Imdb didn't give it good reviews, PEOPLE on imdb gave it good reviews. People are flawed. People have different opinions than you.

"Imdb" gave 1408 good reviews too. Of course I didn't know that, I saw it because I'm a fan of the short story. And despite being slightly disheartened by the fact that it was PG-13, I saw it anyways. Now you want to talk turds, that's a steaming pile there. I mean I bet you were creaming in your pants at the end when Jackson's like "Well Played Mr. Enslin" but I was practically falling at my seats laughing at the hackneyed crap.

Next time, stick to recommendations of people that you KNOW have similar taste in movies to you.

By the way, just curious, what do you do that's so great in your life that you need that 90 mins back? I'm supposing it can't be all THAT impressive, as you take time from your life to troll on IMDB.

"That was so bad I think it gave me CANCER!"

reply

"And despite being slightly disheartened by the fact that it was PG-13"

What exactly was in the short story that would have garnered the film version an 'R' rating?

I collect dead pigeons then I press them between the pages of a book.

reply

HAAA YES!! I was utterly baffled as to why people liked 1408, it wasn't badly made or anything. But it just wasn't dramatic, funny, or scary. At the end i was waiting for some kind of emotion, and my head and heart were both totally empty.

Murder Party is far more original, and it actually left me smiling, in a totaly sick kind of way.

reply

I completely disagree with you about the movie. I think it's one of the best I've been lucky enough to find this year. however the whole point of the movie was a take on how ridiculous the art scene is and how people think different things are art. so no one who enjoyed this movie for the satirical message should be talking down to you because of your opinion.

reply

Overall far more people liked it than hated it. Heck, even I liked it, and I consider myself pretty fickle. The part where Chris Sharp's character tries to escape by throwing garbage at his kidnappers, then fleeing was the funniest thing I'd seen all month.

It's so good, I'm keeping my Blockbuster copy indefinitely. Not sure if that's legal, but the way I see it, they could always order another copy.

LOL, that part was frickin hilarious!

If they have your address, they might send you a bill for it. I should know, I've kept movies long past the due date before, and they kept sending me letters like "blah blah blah, if you don't pay you're going into collections, blah blah blah." If you have Blockbuster Total Access it might be a different story, I don't know, they tried to explain how it worked with late fees vs. restocking fees one time and my head almost exploded, which is why I have netflix.

But, on the other hand, it actually might be cheaper just to keep that copy and let them bill you. Like I think standard bill for a DVD is like 10 bucks if you just keep it. And I've seen that the DVD costs about 25 bucks on Amazon right now.

Don't quote me on that though, they might bill you more than 25 bucks for it, in which case I might just get it from Amazon if I were you.

IF you are the for real director... kudos. MP is one of my current favs and I've been telling everyone about it for about 6 months now.

Well I might as well click "ignore this user" because I couldn't disagree with you more. I loved this film.

reply

That seems like a pretty reactionary statement. The OP doesn't like this movie, so you're going to put them on ignore?

Bender: I was God once.
God: Yes, I saw. You were doing well until everyone died.

reply

wow, I didn't really like the movie but I'm not going to come out like a jackass and call it a turd movie. I have respect for the people behind it and what they accomplished. It had some good parts that are commendable.

Besides other than the prestige and pans labyrinth you listed some terrible movies. How did you even stumble across this movie? Seems like you're only into mainstream type stuff.

reply

This movie is a real time waster. It has decent production values & a
few OK performances (the lead victim & the photographer) but it is
undermined by a truly awful performance by the art "patron" & a
ludicrous script. The film has a "Hee Haw" attitude towards the
Brooklyn art scene & seems like something a clueless old fart would've
written for a skit on the "Sonny & Cher Show" back in the 1970s. The
irony here is that if the writer & director were better artists they
may have pulled this off. Instead it's a stale comedy that isn't funny
& a horror/thriller that isn't suspenseful. Even the soundtrack is a
joke--what self respecting NYC artist listens to speed metal?

reply

Speed metal? Where was that?

reply

Jwpappas: I smell a bitchy artloving jackass.

Aside from the fact that all of your main complaints about it center around the fact that it pokes fun at artists, the fact that you actually managed to somehow work in your love of Cher into your review tells me you're probably a man who prefers other men.

What self respecting NYC artist listens to speed metal, god what a tool you are.

"Hey, can I keep one of her tits?"

Murder Party is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The only decent thing about this movie is the camera work.

reply

This was a fun movie, I really enjoyed some of the characters. I love your attempt at criticism: 'Turd Movie'. Very constructive.

reply

I bet the original poster picks out movies based solely on the box. I thought the movie was great. Nor did I think it lagged or lacked. Stick with the mainstream spoon feedings if you enjoy having the same content pushed down your throat.

reply

I thought this was pretty good. I love the Blade Runner costume and the Warriors costume.

And suprisingly, for this type of low budget straight to video horror movie, the characters seemed more important than the gore. The truth scene was great. The deepest characters I thought was the "warriors" baseball guy and the bearded Zack Galifinakdjflkd-looking guy.

And the big climax (art?), pretty classic.

reply

For a low-budget movie, I thought it was good... although, i wasn't entertained and often found myself just wanting to fastforward to the end to get it over with. I think if I were a friend of one of you guys, I might have laughed where laughs were expected... There just wasn't any character development, no real story and no reason to care about any of the characters... I think the only character I liked was Sky but you killed her off so quick.. I give credit though - that most of the movie was done on one set - so props to the Directurd for that. Oh, I guess the end - where the chainsaw came into play, that was clever.

First of all I know a number of small movie directors and actors that do get into commenting on IMDB, especially in their own movies. so I would be inclined to believe that the director really did comment here, and I know how much you guys (creators of the film) care about a work as well done as Murder Party. Among the community of Amateur filmmakers. Id say that your work is NOT amateur at all and stands head and shoulders above them. Its creative work like Murder Party that makes me really enjoy scouring the internet for news about obscure movies. Murder Party I read about on Fangoria I believe. Same with Satan's Little Helper, another very smart Gem of a B-Movie. The movies that the OP posted here are not even of the same genre of movie that this is. If you named something like Happiness or Behind The Mask, or even Freddy vs Jason. Those would be appropriately smart responses, but you responded rather ignorantly naming big hollywood films that aren't arent at all comedies. Things like Pan's Labyrinth, the Prestige, 1408. All multi-million dollar films. So I guess you didnt really like any Independent films, or B-Movies over the year and therefore probably a bit biased against low budget films. So of course your going to hate anything remotely like Murder Party, even though it is far superior amoung its rank of films.
And Im so happy that I have the choice of seeing these kinds of movies outside of the million dollar film spectrum, which is so prone to formula and business models to fit "demographics" that they often fail because of their shallow $ aspirations.
If the cast of Murder Party are much like many of the film people I know, they probably all worked for free, And will make; if any money at all, off the sales of the DVD, that is if the publisher doesn't steel most all of those profits. Which they are inclined to rip off the small filmmakers more often than not, and leave them with penny's on the dollar.

There's real tallent here though in every aspect, writing, cinematography, sound design, editing, and acting. We can only expect to see great things from them in the future just by them continueing on. Great work!

have to agree, though i do think it was shot very well (very interesting to learn that it was shot in SD). i found Blood Car to be superior to this in every way, definitely my vote for top indie horror film of 2007.

actually the only reason i watched this is because the director of Blood Car said he liked it in an interview. ;)
