Major plot hole * spoiler*

Its running on netflix right now, it is so well written, but when we learn around episode 7 how a shinigami dies.....it make no sense at all

So this Shinigami Gelus dies because he saved a girl life by killing his soon to be murderer, so shinigami can take the life of a human but not extend it or else they die

But by killing random ppl with there death note they can accidentaly extend the life of another person ex: a shinigami can kill a guy one day, who happen to be an alcoolic who would have killed someone while drunk driving 2 days later!!!! So by that logic that shinigami should die. Its ridiculous there race would have been extinct a long time ago lol

It's not a plot hole. The important thing is the motivation. Misa's Shinigami, Rem, said at one point that she wouldn't die if she did something that happens to save Light, because she doesn't like Light and isn't doing it to save him. Shinigami take life when it's time for someone to die, but they aren't supposed to directly interfere in human affairs so that a person they care about lives longer than they're meant to live. They're supposed to be impartial, not to favor a particular human and directly intervene in matters of the human world on that human's behalf.

Ahhh thank you! It was not crystal clear that the motivation behind the gesture was the key element, plus i have yet to hear rem explaining that saving light eouldnt kill her because she doesnt love him, maybe i should have watched a coupke more episodes before posting lol
