Anyone else was reminded of "Office Space" during the last scene? Not only is Richard Riehle on it (inventor of the infamous "Jump to Conclusions" mat) but the whole thing about throwing malfunctioning hardware from the top of a precipice and blowing it up looks like something Peter, Michael and Samir would have loved!

I thought so, too. Especially since the machine he threw off the cliff looked suspiciously like the copier Peter, Michael and Samir ended up bashing to bits.

And I thought it was funny, because when the guy first showed up, I was trying to remember why he looked so familiar, and when held the copier over his head to send it careening to its death, I was like, "AH! OFFICE SPACE!" XDD

Yeah, it was a subtle Office Space reference. I did some work on that movie and became friends with Richard Rhiele, the man who I cast to throw the fax machine off the cliff at the end of my film. I actually used him first in a short film I made in 2002 called "The Parlor" I think you can youtube that short if you are interested. I called Richard up a few years later and told him I was writing a part specifically for him on my first feature - The Last Word, and that his scene was going to be a slight send up of Office Space. I'm glad you guys got the reference.

I instantly thought that it was either an Office Space reference or an incredible and unlikely coincidence.

What a good movie! The ending could have been predictable but wasn't. The movie really gave me a feeling of discomfort and sadness although I couldn't tell you exactly why. And still I really liked it.

So why is it a good movie? Well, I'm still thinking about it. I was happy about the ending even if it didn't end how I thought it would end. Ray Romano was very good in a role that I doubt many others could have added so much humor to while saying the same lines.

I guess I really identified with him in some way. He had the right touch of tortured soul/artist, and accidental friend. If found myself looking forward to his interaction with Wes Bentley's character more than Winona's.
Everyone was terrific.

Although I don't consider this a comedy, even a dark one, it does have humor about it in the right places. Not a feel good movie exactly, but you will feel and the ending went perfectly with the tone of the movie. Great stuff.

I didn't think it was so, subtle. Great ending either way.
