Last night's episode was way too dramatic for the CBBC to be broadcasting this... Young Dracula should fill in for the Doctor Who/Merlin timeslot. What fills that timeslot when Doctor Who & Merlin aren't showing??
Then clearly the thing to do is to - somehow - let the BBC know about this wider audience. Emails are usually a good way, even if they often give out automated replies, but repeated watching on iplayer may also help. Sharing links around of clips and the link helps to. Also: blogging and social media.
You guys are right, I watched the latest ep with my kid sister, and she was petrified. Granted, she's only 9 (and a tiny bit of a wuss), but I really dont think CBBC is the place for Young Dracula any more, it is much more of a teens/young adults/ or watch with the family thing, like Dr Who.
Was it ever really a place for the show? It's a tough fit - the cast was a lot younger when it first started airing and the violence was toned down.
But the amount of sexism/abuse directed at Ingrid by the Count was pretty impressive. It's funny when you can put it into perspective but can kids watching CBBC put it in to perspective? They can probably find it funny but I doubt they have a deep understanding of why, they just laugh because it's so absurd.
I think it's more that there are likely to be kids out there suffering from favouratism and biased parenting. That's not a good thing but sometimes stuff just happens. It's not shown to be right and if it helps a child come forward about being bullied or shines a light on behaviour a parent perhaps was not aware of then that IS a good thing.
It can't be a coincidence that the anti bullying poster has been prominently featured in many, many scenes this series.
Under the skies of scarlet and black Thousands of eyes, there's no turning back
I didn't have a problem with the darkness of this series at all, until the episode 'The Return'. I didn't like Mina or Jonathon at all-though I could understand the reason why they turned out the way they did. I really loved them as characters in the previous series, but now?
The one thing that made it absolutely too dark for me was the fact that Mr Van Helsing was killed-not onscreen, but still, you get my drift. I thought the rage and horror behind that was just a bit too dark, and they probably could have figured out something else if they couldn't get the actor back to play him.
I'm not into fluffy bunnies or anything, but they are marketing this as a kid's show. I'm eighteen and I winced.
It really doesn't fit CBBC anymore; it really needs BBC1 or something. Still loving the series, though. Totally brilliant work. }-)
I know you wrote this years ago (!) but what episode did the Count die? I know he almost died when he was poisoned with a kiss from Elizabeta, but he lived that time..... What episode did he die in?
