Lake City, Florida?

I stopped on the film's IMDB entry (via Drea De Matteo's page) because of the title. I live about an hour from Lake City, Florida. And then I was reading something about the story taking place in "a southern town." So can anyone tell me where this movie is supposed to take place? Is it about Lake City, Florida? I thank you in advance for your input.

reply

No. The film was filmed and is set in Virginia.

I had the same question. There seems to be maybe 3 Lake City's in the US. Although it was filmed in Virginia one can't help to wonder if the writer was influenced by Lake City Florida when choosing the title.

I live in Lake City, FL...and the title caught my eye. but i don't know if there is any connection.

It says that the filming location is Richmond, Virginia, but that doesn't really mean anything. I'm anxious to find out if there's a connection or not.

thats funny the title caught my attention for the same reasons as the others here. my parents are from lake city, fl.

edit: i guess if they mention the the guns being thrown in the lake during the civil war we'll know for sure.

As everyone else (or almost everyone else) I'm originally from Live Oak, Florida, which is not far from Lake City, Florida; and I thought the same when I saw it stated "based in the south".

Just because it's filmed elsewhere, doesn't mean it's not about Lake City, Florida; however, also doesn't mean it is. Not like there's anything special about Lake City, only time anyone knows about the place is if they grew up there, or near there, or passed through there since the highway goes right through it.

There's also a small southern town - Lake City, South Carolina - my hometown, which is the reason it caught my eye as well.

One audience question at the Tribeca Film Fest was "Where is Lake City?" The writers/directors responded that is was fictional. Sissy made the joke that, during filming, she kept asking "Where's the lake?!" :)

reply

Sounds like Lake City, South Carolina.

No this not the Lake City of fla, it's lake city of Virginia, this from reading the reviews in the site's of this IMDB.com. Yes, I wondered the same thing at first ...LC of fla...I was raised there. Is this a story of my life?...naaaaa LOL

Hi,

This is Perry Moore, co-writer and co-director, with my partner Hunter Hill. Lake City is based on true events that took place in a real Lake City. We've always been careful not to reveal where and which Lake City it actually is to protect the anonymity of the real people who inspired parts of the story. Since we placed the family's anonymity on purpose, I think it may have hurt in getting the word out about the story. Yet, such a devastating tragedy that Hunter witnessed as a child, inspired some crucial parts of the story.

You can write me directly at perrymoorestories.com, and I will answer any of these questions you have in the strictest of confidence.

I set the site up to answer questions about then novel HERO I wrote (and for the next upcoming novel, an epic I just turned in to my wonderfully talented publishing team at Disney-Hyperion--they're simply the best!), but I get just as many letters re: Lake City, and I'm more than happy to shed some light on the truth for you.

Please feel free to contact me. May take a few days, but I will DEFINITELY get back to you.

Saw that it's been playing on Showtime 2 as of late. I truly hope you all enjoy it for its truths and finer points, and please try to overlook our modest $1 million budget and the 20 days we had to get EVERYTHING shot. A truly humbling experience --- could never have done it without such a great, devoted cast and crew. The movie is most definitely a character piece , and designed to make the actors shine, which was our main focus in shooting the movie.

Please write to me with all questions or comments. I genuinely look forward to hearing from you. It's the filmmakers dream to connect with an audience through your work.

All my best,
Perry Moore
