Extremely enjoyable film

I'm no expert on musicals, and i know this got bad reviews.

But i love everything about it. The story, the song/dance numbers, the acting.

I just find it to be an extremely enjoyable film.

I do, too! Have seen it a handful of times since its release and it never fails to entertain. The acting is sensational, especially from Day-Lewis, Cotillard and Cruz.

Cotillard has rightly said, "I know Rob (Marshall) is proud of NINE and so am I." She also pointed out that she was bemused by the violent negative reaction to the work. She and Rob were right; the majority of "haters" on this thread probably have never seen Fellini's 8 1/2 (which I'm sure they would have hated, too). Or an opera. Or many musical films of the Sondheim style, in which the songs are integrated with the plot, making comments about the characters. Yep, that musical style started with OKLAHOMA but it's been brought to a new level with recent musicals. Also, check the Tony Awards given NINE on the Broadway stage for both its original production and its revival.

Compared with the "boy movies" of today -- all speeding cars, loud soundtracks, machine-gun outbursts, stunt tricks, buildings blowing up, men dressed in rubber suits doing weird machismo stuff -- NINE could have seemed hard to understand. When people are confused, they often say, "This bores" or "This sucks" rather than admit they just don't get it. Anyone who files a two-word response to a work of art doesn't deserve to be listened to. And those not working as pro choreographers seem to find it easy to criticize Marshall's work. Their ideas and discussions about it can be disregarded out of hand.

What gets me is why so many people are so heated up (still) about NINE. You don't like it, leave or change the channel, even avoid other works by the artist. But leaving before the first five minutes are done (he must have thought he had bought a ticket to "9")? All this violent language by people who clearly didn't understand this film? I'm baffled. Where's the anger coming from? Personally I found it highly operatic (another black mark about it with the average viewer) and brilliantly performed. Every musical number links to the original Fellini movie, so those who did no research about that auteur deserved what they got -- confusion and "boredom."

So please, haters of NINE, go find something to like and give up boring readers of this thread with your opinions.

By the way, I just read a lot of the same kind of hateful criticism about CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA, another brilliant movie which was on many Best Pictures of the Year 2015 by critics. These negativers must travel from thread to thread trying to annihilate those films which threaten their non-understanding. It's like Hitler's SS burning books so people couldn't read what they wanted.
