what's that smell?

I attended the screening of this film at Sundance and had to leave before the end because of a very strong, putrid smell. Some other people noticed the same thing and left the theater coughing and gagging. I asked the theater manager what it was and he explained - the director wished to transport the entire audience into the dream like fantasy of the film by placing dead, decaying fish under some of the seats. Initially he refused, but when the director put a $100 bill in his hand, he gave the O.K.

The movie was beautiful, but the smell nearly made me vomit and I won't be eating any seafood for a while.

"action!", director
