What?!

Is anyone willing to explain this *beep* to me? I don't get it... ???

reply

It was a horrible, confusing mess.

I quite agree. Not the worst but too pointless to be good.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

reply

Ugh. The responses so far offend my senses. What exactly are you confused about? Just saying.

You said it, Day60. Maybe people are afraid to experience a little bit of a "thinker" film, but can you really blame them with all of the Hollywood tripe out there?

I found this to be a Wes Craven gem, but to each his own. =D

It wasn't even hard to figure out. It's not a guesser like Shutter Island. In this movie, everything you NEED to know is found somewhere in the movie's dialog. Everything regarding "who", "what", "why" and "how" is there. If you miss it, it's not Craven's fault.

Want to see a no-brainer horror movie, The Final Destination. Man, that movie was as brainless as one could get. I'm sure someone will come here and say, "At least it was entertaining!". Yeah, I didn't even find THAT piece of crap entertaining. It was just... bad. Really, people rag on this movie, when there's so much more horrorible horror movies out there. Hell, ever see Venom? THAT movie was bad.

Not that I particularly disliked this movie or anything, but did you actually called it a "thinker" film..? Bwahahahahaha!

If you want it explained... here it is. SPOILERS!!!

A man named Abel lived life with the disease Schizophrenia. He had many souls in him (seven to be exact, not including his own). One of those souls was the soul of the Riverton Ripper. What would happen to Abel is when the Ripper wanted to, he could control Abel's body which caused him to kill people as you see in the beginning of the movie. The day that Abel dies/vanishes, seven children are born and it is said in an extra feature that the seven children inherited the eight souls in Abel's body. This meaning that one of the seven children got the Ripper's soul.

The woman that Abel was married to, who also was pregnant when she was killed, had a sister named May. Abel and his wife also had a child named Leah (Fang) who you see him try to kill when controlled by the Ripper. After Abel and his wife die, Leah and Bug(who was the baby in Abel's wife and who survived being in his dead mother's body for some time) live with May.

Now during the movie, the seven children that were born the day that Abel/The Ripper died/vanished are killed off one by one. Near the end of the movie, after five of the seven, a cop, and May are killed leaving Bug and Alex, you find out that it was Alex who inherited not only one of the souls in Abel's body but that Alex also got The Ripper's soul which was in Abel.

That is basically it, I mean there are scenes that are there to show character development and what not but that was basically the movie.

I would add that it's heavily implied that the Ripper soul is demonic and that Bug's ability to house multiple souls isn't a sickness so much as a talent that becomes perverted by this "bad soul." Seems like it passed down from his father. You know, the movie almost plays like the origin story for an anti-hero called The Condor more than a horror flick. At least it was interesting.

@Brian-of-Stewart, love what you said there at the end. Interesting thought.
