Really LOVED this film!

I'd heard such mixed reviews bout this but honestly, I loved it!

From the opening scenes, I was on edge. The direction and pacing (not to mention editing) really creeped me out. The film had a really menacing air all the way through. Thought the young cast did a GREAT job, especially Bug. That actor can ACT man! Liked the idea of a female school 'mafia,' thought it was original that a gang of girls could rule the school. Violence was swift and shocking, story moved forwards at a healthy pace and I was never really sure what was going to happen next. I am not I totally enjoyed the twist but I appreciated it worked. Can't say much more on that really...

A return to form for Wes Craven and I will certainly be buying this.

Can someone who didn't like the film explain why they didn't like it?

Without insults, if possible, kinda bored with the whole 'internet tough guy' routine.

PS : That knife was SICK! It looked brutal!

I just bought the Blu Ray yesterday, my friend and I watched it for the first time and I couldn't understand the negative reviews either. We both loved it and my friend was afraid to leave my house to get to his car afterwards. In the end he sprinted to his car :).

Loved it Wes and I'm so happy your Directing again :D

In some teen movies, yeah, girl cliques rule the school. It's not original, but the way it was handled was interesting. I saw a story about similar "bully cliques" on a nightly news program that handle their affairs in similar fashion. At first, I thought it might seem unrealistic, but turns out, there ARE some cliques that are just like that. Kinda strange!

I am one who disagrees 100% with you. I very much hated this movie. If there was anything I liked about it, it was the prologue, where the husband was arguing with himself about killing his wife. But even that was ruined by the terrible dialogue on the phone with the doctor, and then the whole ambulance scene just annoyed me.

The jock spending 5 minutes (although it seemed much longer) explaining the Riverton mythology to the audience was just ridiculous, and the "we must kill the Ripper every year" festival was stupid. How would this annual event ever have gotten started in the first place? And I didn't even realize the black kid was blind until halfway through the movie. I know he said something about him being "the blind one" after the chase scene with the police, but I thought he was just exaggerating a lack of personal focus. After all, he had just run through the forest to escape the police.

All of the killer's dialogue was ridiculous, and his menacing tone just cringe-inducing. Fang's grip on the school was silly, and her assigning numbers each day for how hard the jock had to punch people? Come on...what adjective other than stupid could describe this? "I told you to give him an 8, and you gave him a 12...". Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I felt no tension whatsoever watching this movie, and never had a sense of dread. I didn't care for a single character, so none of their deaths mattered to me at all. From about 25 minutes into this movie, I just wanted it to be over. I continued watching, hoping it would redeem itself, but it never did. When it was over, I was just angry that I had wasted my time.

I love horror movies more than any other genre, but I am growing tired of "lowest common denominator", PG-13 garbage. But even among that sub-genre, this movie stood out as being even more awful than the rest.

^^This. Exactly what I thought. No tension, didnt realize the blind kid was blind until half an hour in, portrayal of the school was silly, ridiculous dialogue. This movie just didnt make any damn sense. The characters would be saying something and segue into something completely different and suddenly I had no idea how the dialogue moved in that direction or what the hell they were actually talking about. I never saw a person in this movie behave or react to anything in the way a real person would. The only thing that stood out to me was the kid who played Bug, who I did think was a pretty good actor for what he had to work with. Whenever he was talking to himself or imitating another person I was pretty impressed.

I loved it too.

But the first time I watched it, I was disappointed. I was confused and bored but I recently re-watched it on HBO and I fell in love with it. I can't explain it. I just thought it was really good.

Underrated film of 2010.

I agree with you... I really liked this movie, I was kind of interested in the fact I had to guess and was wrong most of the time. The idea was a really unique thought and I liked the way it went. I was a little disappointed at the ending and some aspects really confused me but the story and the actors were awesome.

Sorry for the whole I think I know everything comment but it kept me fully interested.

I liked it too. I think it was too complex and confusing for most people. Wes Craven often tries really original ideas and often he's praised for it. In this case I think he lost a lot of people who wanted a more simple and scary slasher movie. It was a very odd, purposely schizophrenic movie. I do think some of the dialogue could have been better, although some was also very strong, and I do think it would have benefited from more suspense instead of such fast kills, but I find the hate for this very original slasher movie odd as it's far greater and more intelligent than the slasher remakes of late.

It was received so badly in the US that it didn't even get shown in cinemas in the UK that I know of. I saw the trailer in UK cinemas but never found the movie anywhere which is a real pity when it's Wes Craven and dreadful and uninspired movies like the Friday 13th, Halloween and Elm St remakes are given such widespread releases. It really annoyed me actually, but ultimately My Soul To Take is an ingenious movie with a slightly flawed execution that will only be appreciated by those who are looking for something very different and weird.

I have a friend who likes it too.

This movie was horrible. I just watched it last night, I had an open mind going into it. I thought the trailer was solid enough, and I liked the opening. But from there, it went straight down the *beep* er. Nothing that happened made any sense. It was obvious that they just put things together to finish the movie. Especially the end. So it was a soul that traveled from Bugs father, to Alex? Then right when Alex was stabbed the soul leaves, and it just in gone? That was the laziest writing I have ever seen. Not just because it was Wes, who I am a huge fan of. The direction was horrible, and the lines were terrible. Especially with the teen girls, and the lines the ripper spoke. It also felt very uneven, between the "scares" that were not frightening at all, and the high school life. I felt like I was watching secret life of the american teenager mixed with scream. Hopefully Wes will make another great original film soon.

I'm afraid I just blue myself
