Similar Japanese movies to this one?

Can anyone recommend more movies of this style, slowness and detail & Japanese?

-I loved the slowness of the movie, gives you the native feeling. Also usually movies like these, slow, and deep have a BIG ending, like a suicide. There was a great ending, but nothing beyond this world.
I loved that, because right from the start I kinda knew that there will be no big ending, that’s a great skill of the director.

I'd recommend "Welcome to the Quiet Room"... as it did have a similar dark reality feel to it mixed with some dark comedy.

I liked "The Blue Bird" as well, but some may call it somewhat boring with no humor to it at all. It deals with high school bullying in a frank and non-glossy way. Other modern Japanese movies I've enjoyed recently were "One Million Yen Girl", "Yuriko's Aroma", "Linda Linda Linda", "Blue"(2002), "Nana" and "My Rainy Days". And for a good laugh to relieve the slowness, check out "Swing Girls".

As for non-Japanese Asian films, "Maundy Thursday" was also good at being somewhat slow and methodical, though it's a Korean movie. Also, "Hear Me" is a Taiwanese movie with a slow style of building up the love story (the characters use sign language for most of the movie). Check out some Chinese films like "In the Mood for Love" and "Chungking Express".
