Christina in Berlin, Germany: Hey Kristin, somebody told me the new Ryan Murphy series called Pretty Handsome (with Joseph Fiennes, Carrie-Ann Moss and Blythe Danner) didn't get picked up by FX. Is that true? I can't find anything official on the Net.
Sources at FX confirm that the network is not picking up the Pretty Handsome pilot to series. Sorry.

shareWell... the pilot was okay... could have been much better. The direction sucked in a major way and some of the acting was pretty rough (since all the actors besides Wagner are pretty top notch, I can only fault that on the vague tone of the script). They just couldn't decide if they were going to make it a comedy or a drama. Most "dramedies" fluctuate fluently between both but given the subject matter, I think the writing left a little to be desired in terms of a definitive direction.
All this being said, I'm even surprised the pilot was produced so I couldn't say I'm stunned it wasn't picked up. Let's face it, most networks want to play Showtime these days but few have the balls to do it. Homosexuality is still taboo and though there are more and more shows with gay supporting characters, we still haven't seen one serial with a gay lead where homosexuality wasn't the main subject (and I'm not counting Will & Grace for that reason and also because it was a sitcom where most of the jokes revolved around some of the characters' sexuality) so I'd say we're probably going to have to wait a while for a network to have a show ABOUT transexuals... sadly enough it still is a taboo topic that noone will dare approach for a while.
