Ryan Murphy is too over the top

I find that he has great ideas and seems to come up with interesting concepts but the delivery just falls through... everything is always over the top, it's almost as if he gets a great idea and drags it through the dirt in circles until it is completely thin.

Nip/Tuck is such a mess and based on the premise alone it had potential to be a truly great dramatic series but everything is always so campy, over the top and it reminds me of what an r-rated soap opera would be like.

Anyway, I do love a lot of the actors attached to this project and I am mainly interested because of Joseph Fiennes

I agree with you. However, I still enjoy watching Nip/Tuck. I wonder if he will make this more realistic and dramatic - perhaps he thinks Nip/Tuck is those things and is just a bad writer.

reply

This pilot is brilliant. Much more reserved than Nip. It's wild, but it's GOOD.

reply

you saw it? How is Carrie-Anne Moss' performance?

Carrie-Anne Moss is my constant.

reply

The only thing i don't like are these shakey "thinking, memories" reality style scenes.

reply

I agree. Especially because they weren't consistent. Sometimes they were used as memories, sometimes they were used as an expression of internal thoughts and then there were a couple times, like the one shot of Patrick on Halloween, that didn't have any meaning at all. But it's got a lot of potential, especially compared to some of the junk that is on tv nowadays.

reply

I loved it. I can't wait to see what else is in store for this show.

Three years later... but SERIOUSLY, you're so right. Pilots have craploads of faults, by and large, but this was the only really terrible one in P/H. Just... wtf were they doing? Argh!
And I am all blamey about it because I need SOMEONE or SOMETHING to blame for it not being picked up, thereby denying me the opportunity to watch CAM turn into a cougar (well, not at first but it'd so follow the initial hook ups). Grr!

reply

I agree, though I sort of got used to it.
I really enjoyed the pilot.

reply

I watched the pilot and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised.

Does anyone know when this show is going to air?

reply

I agree Nip/Tuck has become how over the top I can make the next episode. Ryan Murphy needs to learn how to tone it down because his series get so over the top that the only place left to go is down.
