The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I'd bet anything that the writer was inspired by The Yellow Wallpaper http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/YelWal.shtml

I've read that story and I can definitely see the correlation. The descent into madness, the completely enveloping delusion... it's all there. I found this movie to be really intelligent about the exploration of what it means to be well and truly lost in suffering to the point of breaking off mentally. I feel like all the negative critiques are based on being too unwilling to participate in the movie fully. Most seem to be looking for a plot that is just handed to them with gore and cheap scare tactics. This movie makes you work for the thrill by actually thinking about it, and is scarier after you finish watching it than it is during. I loved it.
