Am I the only one who understands this movie?

All of these posts wasted on saying how terrible a father he is, and how confusing the plot is, etc.

Ummmmm...THE PARENTS ARE MENTALLY ILL...period. The whole point of the film is to feel the confusion of the mentally ill, and experience their incompetence.

I could go into more details, but don't feel like wasting more time. The moive isn't great, but it is bad either if you see it for what it is. It is certainly effective, considering many of the reactions on this board.

yes I did find this movie very confusing. The ending was a total shocker but I actually enjoyed watching this movie more the second time I watched it - knowing what the twist was it put all the scene that did not make sense the first time into a whole new perspective. It was actually really creepy.

No, you are not. I thought movie was very, very good and director very confident and talented. It was also written shrewdly. The story never goes into shallow waters, not for a moment. It is heavy to watch, creepy and very unpleasant. As a horror it enriches the genre, but in many other aspects it feels like a crossbreed with European auteur cinema of sixties and seventies. I will compare it with Cronenberg's "Spider", if you wish. That film got lots of attention. They both are about mental illness and both achieve not to vulgarize their topic. I must admit I prefer "The Cradle". It made me feel extremely uncomfortable, at the same time it is very lyrical and poetic (nice editing and camera work paly a big role in that). If you ask me, this film will hold. I thought Canadian film was half dead and I am so glad I was soooo wrong!

Hey zoran-30,

Did you work on the production of 'Cradle' or write/direct it? Just curious...

I wish filmmakers would be a little more creative and stop trying to make movies with surprise twisted endings (à la "The Sixth Sense"). This movie, "The Cradle", does have a twist at the ending but by the time it got there, it seemed a lot of viewers, for the most part, had already lost interest. Perhaps the movie could have been improved by better editing because it was VERY slow-paced, lacked suspense, and had a storyline that, at times, seemed like it wasn't going anywhere.
Yes, I understood "The Cradle" on my first viewing but understanding a movie doesn't necessarily mean its a good movie (imho).

I understand that his wife was mentally ill, and had postpartum depression. I also understand that she killed herself after they moved in. He wasn't mentally ill. He didnt know his baby was dead because he was being tricked somehow. At least that's what I thought. But it is a ghost story, and Im just wondering why no one is mentioning that. It is more than a story about two mentally ill people.

In another thread, a guy named fifthcorner explains the movie well....

"the most confusing pice of crap ever is the one.
