Episode 1x09 - Revenge of the Sithee (minor spoilers)
RosyRaptor posted this a few weeks ago in the "Lord of the Onion Rings" thread:
I'm also curious as to whether the series will end up parodying Star Wars episodes 1-3. It would be really neat if they did, and it has the potential to be pretty good if done correctly. =)
Six simple words - be careful what you wish for.
In this episode, we find out in an extended flashback that Dark Helmet started out in life as Panakin Crybaby, who with his mother was the slave of a guy with a head painted red with silly horns named Shopping Maul, a member of the villainous Sithee. Panakin beat Shopping Maul in a NasPod race and won his freedom, going on to be trained in the ways of the Schwartz (and dirty dancing) by Yogurt, and later President Skroob (who starts out as the President of a furniture company, founds the Sithee, and goes from there).
Panakin has a brief love with Vespa's counterpart (the Princess' decoy), though that goes nowhere because of a bump on his head from a final Schwartz duel with Shopping Maul that turns her off of him. To hide the bump, he has Skroob prepare him a helmet. You can pretty much figure out the rest from there.
As for whether this is any good, RosyRaptor, it's a passable attempt at the much ridiculed first prequel, but then skips to the end of the third prequel, missing out most of the good bits. Don't set your expectations too high.
Do watch this, however, for a brief appearance by a Jar Jar Binks rip-off character (all his sentences start with "Mesa") as the starting referee of the NasPod race, who gets his just desserts. Twice. Funniest part of the episode.
Premiered August 13th and 15th, 2008, on SuperChannel Canada.
Please let me know if there's some other way we can screw up tonight.
