The hell! Clerks: TAS gets cancelled but ABC picks up this.

utter crap

reply

Did you even SEE Clerks: TAS?

I like the Clerks, and I'm still glad that show got canceled. The only part I can remember laughing at was the "Korean Animators" ending to the courtroom episode. Other than that, I see no redeeming quality to the show, and I'm betting the only reason you defend it is because it is "The Clerks", not because it was actually worth watching.

Personally, I don't know how well this will fare, either... but here's hoping. *Crosses fingers*

Well, I did like Cleks: TAS, but it didn't really get to show its truely good episodes, Also, the pilot was cut from being shown, so the jokes in the first aired episode didn't make any sense. So rent the complete 6 episodes if you get the chance. I was able to get it at Blockbuster, but you can get it anywhere I think.

I liked to see Clerks: TAS! I thought i was a well done show

reply

I have seen both.

CLERKS kicked the pathetic ass of SB. Both attempted a kind of satire/parody of pop culture and animated tropes. Only one succeeded consistently.

i think Clerks is a million times funnier than Family Guy.
The animated movie is going to be hilarious.

I agree. Family Guy is a really overrated pile of crapola. The South Park episodes Cartoon Wars: Parts I & II explain my hatred perfectly.

Clearly you misunderstood the true meaning of those episodes..

reply

You have got to be joking. I loved the movie Clerks, but the animated was so-so. Now family guy, the non funny episodes were there, but all in all it is a very funny show.

reply

Clerks sucked and it deserved to get canceled.

reply

I think you're all deranged.

Spaceballs: The Anything! - Amazing
Clerks - Amazing
Family Guy - Amazing
South Park - Amazing

You All - Deranged.

reply

"Oh hey, I like everything everyone else likes."

South Park is stupid
Family Guy is losing it
Clerks RULES
Spaceballs RULES.

TV is a weird thing. Lots of great shows have gotten the Ax. Clerks the Animated Series was GREAT. Another "taken from one and made 'a new'" that I really liked was the live action version of The Tick (which also got pulled.) However, predictable unfunny shows stay on air forever (South Park, FRIENDS).

The plus is that this is on G4, which is a more select audience.
The minus is that it is on G4, a channel not everyone gets.

I will speak for you, and all mediocrities in the world. I am their champion, their patron saint.

reply

I don't see how you could call South Park predictable and unfunny. It's one of the freshest and most well written shows on television. Due to the fact that most episodes can be completed in only six days they are able to be up to the minute when it comes to hitting fresh targets and comparing it to "FRIENDS" is just plain retarded.

reply

ok, earlier family guy was hillarious. after about season 3 or so, it started to become very repetative, and long and drawn out.

i saw a few episodes of clerks animated series, it wasnt terrible, i had a few laughs, nothing incredibly spectacular.

im personally looking forward to space balls, just because i find that a lot of mel brooks stuff has a lot of very rich classic humor that is very rare in comedy these days.

now, its not listed here as of yet, but i still find classic episodes of the simpsons, to be the best. earlier stuff is ALL IM REFERRING TO, because i have not seen anything of their new stuff in the last few years.

of course, theres one animated series that still beats all. Ren and Stimpy. and not the new crap that came out a while back, the original good stuff. yep. i dont think anything beats "ask Dr. Stupid" least..i think thats what it was. man, i gotta go get ren n stimpy on dvd or somethin....

reply

Clerks had no shot cause it was on ABC so it couldnt be vu;gar or hint at vulgar topics at all

Spaceballs will be on G4 where they can let most of those things slide , so if it fails , it will be because the cartoon itself is bad..but Melbrooks is behind it so i doubt it

reply

clerks sucked

reply

Clerks is great. Clerks the cartoon is great. As great as Clerks is, Kevin Smith still bows to Mel Brooks, so does his movie, and probably so too shall his cartoon.

reply

Smith > Brooks. Know how much of Smith's work I have liked 100% (yea, even Jersey Girl, it wasn't great, but it was enjoyable.)? Know how much of Brooks stuff I have liked, I don't know the percent but it is 5 movies, 1 TV show (Get Smart), and 1 play. Smith has made 7 movies that I love (Clerks II being my favorite comedy), a tv show I loved and I saw a play version of Clerks, so yea. Spaceballs was not a funny movie. Okay, it was... when I was 11. I watched it again recently, and I didn't laugh except for the scene parodying Alien, that was funny. Smith writes snappy dialouge that is hilarious, and at times very meaningful, Brooks writes shallow jokes everyone can get, even if you haven't seen the movie.

reply

Don't get me wrong I love Kevin Smith's movies, but he doesn't write "snappy dialouge" it's all stupid humor just like Mel Brooks. There work is very similar in comedy style and the audience they target, I've never seen a Mel Brooks movie I didn't think was hilarious. I'm personally pissed that this is coming out on G4 because that station is not available to me, and i'm going to have to wait for the show to get released on dvd.

reply

If you honestly believe Kevin Smith is superior to Mel Brooks, you're a moron. This is coming from a Smith fan.

To the guy that loved the South Park episode Cartoon wars, South Park is way overated and not really that good. Each week they just try to gross out the previous episode. There is a fine line between raunchy humour and just plain stupidity.

This is one of the more asinine statements I've seen on these boards. South Park provides the most scathing political and social commentary on television today. It is witty and smart humor, with clever comparisons, analogies, and representations... and some toilet humor thrown in too. Because d!ck and fart jokes are funny, but if you are clever enough to catch it, you can see that Matt and Trey are showing that people, in general, are retarded. And oh, my goodness, are they right...

That said, I've just heard of this show and will be keenly interested in seeing it.

You know whats funny.....everyone arguing about who sucks and who doesn't, when most of those filmmaker's RESPECT eachother and their own variety in comedy.

I liked Clerks and I'm sure I love Spaceballs

And as far as other people talking Family Guy and South Park.

Ya, early Family Guy was better. Now its a small plot with a bunch of random jokes that, even tho still hilarious, can leave you wondering anymore....

And South Park....hell ya, I love it. But unless the plot is based off of something, it seems like its usually written out of thin air to me, like you can think of millions of random ideas, pick a few, and think of how you tie them into one plot and bam you have an episode. But I guess it's not always like that, I can't deny there have been some really good plots. But whatever.

And don't pull that "Oh I like what everyone else likes!". Its ok to like what everyone else likes, as long as you really do like it. If you just like for the fact that everyone else does......think for yourself, loser!

how can you guys really compare spaceballs to clerks to southpark.
it's like comparing a steak dinner to your favorite dessert, they're both amazing just in completely different ways. if you're comparing dialougue then yeah Smith obviously wins because that's what he does, it's what has made him famous. Brooks on the other hand makes parodies that completely capture the spirit of the movies he's spoofing. i have to say that south park probably isn't as great as the others but again it's completely different.

Since when is Spaceballs a cult film??? and as far as Southpark, it was better in the early seasons, because now they have created as unreachable expectation through having sooooo many comercials for each new episode. They're definately overdoing it, and I haaaaated the 300/lesbian episode. Did anyone catch Stella on Comedy Central??? No there's a great show that got canceled! AND *beep* MENCIA!

reply

next start comparing it to nonexistent stuff like Evil Dead the animated series

reply

dude... clearly the evil dead animated series is the best of the three animated series.

(god I hope people see the sarcasm there.)

But for the record Evil dead does rock. And so does south park, and unlike family guy, it is in it's prime. It's never been better, the past couple seasons they've managed to stay on top of every major issue/show/celebrity debacle to show up in the media, and they've had the balls to go head to head against the lawsuit happy scientologists not once, but twice. And if you can't appreciate the brilliance that was the tenth season premiere(I believe that was it) where chef comes back "brainwashed" by the obvious scientology parody group, then just... give up. That was brilliant and subtle and just... amazing. Sure, some episodes have been offensive just for offensive sake, but you have to watch the newer ones and you'll see that they do great parody work.

reply

To OP, how long ago did Clerks get canceled? And this show hasn't even aired yet, and you're calling it crap already? What do you know about the show that we don't? First off, Smith fanboy. I like his work, but the Animated series was crap and really forced. I watched it, and wasn't that impressed, Clerks 2 was ok, but I think Mallrats was a much better movie, look at all the press for Clerks 2 and it barely dented the box office. Smith has a cult following, and a cult fan base, the general population can careless about his work. Which is why his movies rarely ever hit the top 10 spots. And if they do, they fall off really fast. Mind you, I enjoy his movies, he's different.

But now, bashing Brooks, are you for real, Brooks has taken comedy in very off colored areas, taboo even, he's a comical genius, and does make you wonder, how did a movie like Blazing Saddles ever get made with its comentary, of course back in the 70's PC wasn't around but still the jokes they've said, wow, lol

Rabbi Tuckman: Faegaelas?
Robin of Locksley: No, we're straight, just merry.

reply

clerks was *beep* and everyone who says southpark sucks has no conciept of the humour, it is a parody of the world! just because you play wow and don't know what's going on in the world you live in. I'm sorry educated people scare you!

Clekrs: TAS was awesome.

However, it's really no surprise that G4 would pick up something like this, I mean, look at CodeMonkeys...
