Contemporary Version of Graveyard of the Fireflies?

It's just as moving a story, nevertheless.

Part of me wants Nee-nee to survive and recover, and discover how much Kaoru loves him, and then they'd end up together again. But, a part of me recoils from that thought because, even though they were born from different parents, they were raised to believe they were brother and sister.

The ending scene is so bittersweet, and so cute, and so touching all at the same time.
