Sex Drive

Am I the only one who find it strange that none of the characters (except for that rapist guy) seem to have any sex drive? A large group of teenagers at the age where the sex drive normally is at its strongest living close together in a camp and no one has the slightest interest in sex or romance. Sure they will be punished if they do something but that doesn't mean they will not try. And it didn't look to be that many guards that every teenager could be watched 24/7.

starvation and torture can mess with your body that way... along with cult like observation.
It wasn't just the guards you would need to hide from, but everyone, because they reward snitches with promotions and extra rations.
They didn't play this aspect of their control up as much as it would happen in a real camp.

Well, in German concentration camps during world war 2 that might be case but this is nothing like that. The teenagers didn't suffer any severe torture or starvation and the conditions were not worse than in many western countries' prisons today. And they were not that subdued or terrified that they didn't dare to think of sex. What the two main characters did proves that.
