So does every from Humboldt County like hate this movie?

It seems that many residents of Humboldt county are highly offend by the portrayal of Humboldt County in this film. I am from the San Bernadino county and I did not take the characters in this film as if this is really how residents of Humboldt are. I just took it as this is how these particular people lived and did not think that if I was to run to off to Humboldt County this is indeed the kind of nature I would find among all Humboldt County. Anyways, I think that everyone should just think this all over and understand that this is just a movie and shouldn't take it so seriously.

Becuase it might attract more outsiders- you know, "the White, slave owning Mutha F.......'s" as one character remarked.

Exactly. I think titling a film after a real place is almost always problematic, often misleading, and rarely a good idea because it shows a lack of imagination. "Fargo" was more about Minnesota than North Dakota, and "Philadelphia" was really about AIDS, not Pennsylvania.

This is not a documentary, but a slice of life about some oddball characters from Southern California who encounter some oddball characters from Northern California. If you've watched this movie and don't like it as a movie, that's fine. But if you don't like it because it doesn't represent life in Humboldt as you know it, I think you need a better reason to criticize the film. Or just criticize the title, which is the worst part of the film in my opinion.

I definitely think the title is wrong, as it really only shows a small aspect of Humboldt County. I mean, you can't call a movie Humboldt County and not have it really take place in Arcata, which is arguably the hub of the place. However, having lived in Humboldt for over 8 years (no longer, but was there during the filming of this movie) I have to say, it's accurate for the most part, just only accurate for the location and aspect they chose to focus on.

Even though this is a dramatic film, I don't see any reason to believe that the people of Humboldt County are like this. I don't think they're ass holes nor people trying to find serenity through pot like this film depicts. Hell, the only thing about Humboldt County I know of is this movie and I know not to take the depiction of this real place seriously.

For example, if anyone saw the film Australia (2008) I'd hope like hell they didn't think thats what Australia is like.

"I have always valued my lifelessness."
