Ouah!! Super film! Why rated so poorly? But....

I originally watched this film to see one of my favourite French actors, François Cluzet but was delighted by the director, Cédric Klapisch. Superb mélange of the stories - he allows one to reflect and think about one's own life - rather than be spoon fed like les films typiques - not to say all Hollywood films are "typiques". There are many out there that are outstanding (to all Hollywood bashers - just watch Munich, The Debt, Crash or even The Ides of March - to name only a few, all great thought-provoking films.) That said, I highly recommend this film. I cannot understand why it has been rated so poorly. I'd still give it an 8 over the 6.8 it received.

Surely you know that most of the reviewers on imdB are 17 years old. This movie is way, way over their heads which is why it doesn't have a higher rating.

I doubt a lot of 17 year olds are rushing off to watch a French flick with little plot. I'm going to assume that this movie wouldn't be 'over the heads' of the people that would want to see it in the first place. I didn't like it because it didn't feel real while trying to be realistic. Some people might see it appealing as whimsical and such but it annoyed me. It felt scripted instead of natural. Add that to the typical complaints of I have of French movies like pretentiousness and sitcom-esque cartoony men with supermodel pairings and it wasn't for me. A 6.8's pretty high anyway. It's two ticks above average, right?

I thought Cedric Klapisch constructed his mosaic of stories really well, interweaving them together cleverly. As is usual with these anthology type films there will always be arguments over which stories were better/worse and which should have been given greater/less prominence.

I personally would have liked to get more background on Khadija, and Benoit's story faded very quickly into the background after strongly featuring at the beginning of the film.

The market stories were the least realistic IMO. For a few moments there I thought the four marketeers and the four women were going to break out into song and dance around the fork lift a la Gigi.

Melanie Laurent and Juliette Binoche ...always a pleasure to see them in action.

I think 6.8 = 7 is quite a fair rating.
