Spoiler, re: end bathroom scene

In your opinion, what was the meaning of the kiss? Did the character realise that the other girl was in love with her, and wanted to kiss her as a hurtful way of telling her to 'piss off'. Or did she realise that she's never kissed a guy and demonstrate what it's like (i.e. as if a kiss is really nothing).

I think maybe she didn't actually realize Marie's feelings for her and thought that she wanted to ask something of her the way she had of Marie. Marie did a first something for her, so maybe she just thought Marie wanted to know what a kiss was like. It kind of makes sense to me. Like, ok you did that for me, of course I'll show you what a kiss is like, see, it's not that hard etc etc.

At least that's what I got out of it.

I took the kiss more as the apex in that slow building relationship. I feel Floriane liked Marie from early on as more than a pawn, Marie composed herself better in the more sexually tense scenes. And the kiss was something they had both wanted for a while.

Floriane's theme in this movie was about power while Marie's was about powerlesness. Marie only comes to Floriane when she's called but in that kissing scene it is Marie who takes the initiative. Marie is truly in love while Floriane isn't.

I think Floraine unfortunatly was sexualized way early and (not excusing her, because poor Marie...) early on seemed to learn how to harness that power. I think it was quite the ego stroke for her to realize she could hold this same power over a girl (Especially considering her bad history with the same sex in competitions). And you can see by the "dancing in the club" scene with Marie she's fully aware of how enamored Marie is with her. I don't know if she was really bi-curious, so much as Marie-curious. She seems like a girl who LIKES to have her ego stroked and discovering just how far she could take her game with Marie just seems like something she would do not out of bi-curiousity so much as for as change in the game. Like I said, she was sexualized YOUNG by men so she's use to playing the game with them. Having them act on there desire to touch her is no challenge at all, but keeping them at arms length even while giving them a little teasing taste is a challenge. Marie changed the rules and added a new twist. Unlike all the men in Floraine's life, Marie was very skilled at keeping the "monster" of her desire in and once Floraine knew it was there I think she just intrigued with releasing it. It was a twist in her life that she used rather coldly to entertain herself.

As has been said, there's no doubt Marie was in love and the kiss was an act born of that love. She was actually quite brave for 15, as I couldn't see myself at 15 aknowledging I wanted to be with a girl, let alone having the nerve to initiate myself into her space.

The kiss might have meant something to Floraine somewhere deep down, but I think Floraine wanted to keep Marie on as a friend. That was something new and intresting, but was already to much numbed by being sexualized to care much if she had sex or not (with a man or woman). I don't think she has the ability to really sort out between people who just want her body and someone who wants to be there for her and truly cares about her. In her mind it's always about her body, it can never be deeper. In a way I feel sorry for her.

I completely agree with everything you just said.

To me, the kiss in the bathroom was the most passionnate kiss of the whole movie. Floriane seemed much more into the kiss than the kiss she had with Francois.

However, the feelings she may/may not have felt for Marie were overridden by her feelings for distance. You're right, she didn't know how to see feelings as being deeper than lust, so she herself may have disregarded her own feelings towards Marie as just shallow, and like you said, "bicurious." Florian doesn't understand what intimacy is. At the end, she even remarked something about the kiss being "easy," because when you don't love/crush someone, it is easy to launch on them.

I think Floraine was very aware that Marie loved her, or fancied her.

but i also will say this, and i stand by it, Floraine is very aware of Her Own
feelings. When we saw Floraine lose her virginity, it said it all there in her
tears. Also she wanted Marie to do it. She didn't love Marie, but she knew Marie
loved her and would respect her, and it would be Floraine's moment. If she would
have let a guy take it away, she knew he would just use her, and she wouldn't
have been able to make it her own moment. (even though she only wanted to lose
it so the guy wouldn't know she's a virgin? i think that was all a lie)

i think Floraine is very aware of her feelings, BUT!!!!
as i heard before, she overrided those feelings for the sake of being the
"popular" permiscous girl. *which i dont understand but whatever***

So she just used poor marie throught the whole thing.

the Kiss to me was very real. i think Floraine fancied Marie to some extent,
but really she was just using her. And when she kissed Marie, i think for
THAT MOMENT ONLY she turned off her "role" and kissed her for real. But as soon
as is ended, she went back to her leading Role.

it was a interesting movie, but sad! :(

I agree pretty much with you about Floraine (for now), decrd1986 and Lady vader21. However I would like to watch the movie again to see if I can pick up on more clues. Thanks.
Anyways, I have enjoyed the movie.

Seemed to me that Floriane did have deep feelings for Marie - but she has to keep her false image up as swim team leader, being both feared and respected by her team members & associates. Hence, Floriane is forced to return to the party to catch more bait. It's a viscious cycle for Marie because she wants Floriane to stop that and just committ her heart to her full-time. Floriane, however, has worked too far to give up everything for Marie and so she wont.

I think that she never got the other girl was in love with her. When she gave her the kiss, the said it was not that hard. More or like losing her virginity, as both were burdens they had to get rid off. Sadly, this is what makes the other girl realize that, even after such intimacy, there is no place for love between them.

The kiss was like the sex scene between Anne and Francois; a moment of awareness for the one who adored the other to realise that the object of their affections did not reciprocate them and had been using them. Francois used Anne for sex and Floriane used Marie for seduction. The kiss was so passionate for Marie that she stood still stunned during which time Floriane washes her lips and starts chatting nonchalantly about another guy before asking Marie to wait for her. The aftermath said al about the feelings between the two.

The distance is nothing. The first step is the hardest.
