Excellent film.

Saw a lot of posts on here discussing how only perverts cud enjoy this etc etc. Absolutely ridiculous comments.

This was very well made and well acted. Great storyline. Great music. Terrific characters.
Thoroughly realistic and heart warming.

Very similar to the swedish film *beep* Amal. Equally as powerful.
French cinema isn't for everyone I admit but this is a beautifully crafted film all round. I can't fault it one bit.
You really care about the characters here so I'm eagerly awaiting the director's next film.

Just caught it randomly on Film Four after A Life Less Ordinary and didn't know what to expect of it but I thought it was a great film. Took me by surprise how good it was

Thank God for some sanity. I thought Water Lilies was superb. Very few film makers can keep you entranced with practically no dialogue and practically no action but this film was mesmerising not because it showed lots of adolescent girls in swimsuits but because it captured mood and because it was beautifully shot in spite of its drab suburban location. The culture of cheerleader & barely legal pornography,of beauty pageants for children, of adult sexualization of children emanates from the US and perhaps it is not surprising that people growing up in that culture cannot or will not or choose not to distinguish between the aesthetic and the sexual when it comes to teenage girls in swim suits. Having said that I confess I was concerned the film would cross the like but I should have trusted the director - it never did. And Marie, what an actress. The subtlety and nuances of her performance equal or surpass any child actor I have ever seen.

Just from your post i think you would really enjoy Wong-Kar wai's "Happy together" if you have'nt already seen it that is

I liked this film fairly well and I watched it for the synchronized swimming scenes; it mesmerizes me because I can't do it. All relationships have issues, so the twists and turns of teenage lust aren't so different from adult glitches.

Thanks Seriosity. I finally saw L'Effrontée I thought Lulu was such a darling character. The title of the film certainly fit Charlotte.

I agree!

This very fine movie has been most strangely attacked by moronic and medieval bible thumping retards on this board and 6.2 is ridiculously low compared to what trash gets high rates.

I sat down to watch it with no expecatations at all and was completely stunned by the two main actresses. Yes, right, this is a movie about two teen lesbians but it's not a movie only of interest to lesbians or teens but to anyone who wants movies to be about things human rather than about clichés, serial killers and buildings being blown up to heaven.

Especially the confused character of Floriane is very interesting. I know some see her as an uninteresting cardboard figure cynically and callously using Marie but that's an interpretation suitable for people brought up on American thrillers rather than subtle French movies. She seems rather to be swinging to and fro between her tender feelings for Marie and what's expected from the pretty leader of the team - that is dating boys and having had sex with a lot of them, which she hasn't. The result is a pretty terrible moody teen girl superbly played by Adèle Haenel.

French cinema isn't for Americans. They try to hide reality and make trash like friends or american pie

This is one of the greatest films ever.
