Lo's Proposal Scene

I don't know...but the love scene when Lo proposes to Linda Gail just seemed weird to me. It's not your typical love scene when a guy has just proposed to his girl. Was that how it was portrayed in the book? It seems they could have done without it (the love scene, not the proposal).
