Why This Movie Has An Artificially Low Score

The only reason the movie has a low score is because of the 90 "1" scores on there, all of them from Boll haters who just go down the list of any film Uwe Boll is connected to in any way on imdb and give it a "1".

A couple of guys like that discover this movie every day that way and give it a "1" even though it's impossible for them to have seen it because it hasn't been seen in the US or Europe or Australia yet. LOL people sure hate that Mo'Fo' Boll!

I don't understand the Ed Wood comments I've already been reading on here, though. Are they calling the drector of this movie, Ernie Barbarash, "the Ed Wood of our generation"? I don't think that's very fair. He did a great job with this movie (I saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival where there was applause at the end), and even CUBE ZERO was pretty decent. I've become kind of a fan of this guy's work. I suppose they must be referring to Uwe Boll who didn't direct this movie.

I don't even see how Uwe Boll could be on the list of executive producers on a fun little movie like this. I can only guess he put some money in at the end of it somehow? And what about all the other people besides Ernie Barbarash involved in this movie? None of them are going to show up on imdb to defend themselves probably, but why beat up on them? They did a great job. How would you feel if you did a bunch of hard work on a movie and Uwe Boll shows up and stamps an executive producer title on it? And then all the people who hate Uwe Boll try to call it one of his piece of crap movies without even seeing it or paying attention to the credits. Man, I'd be PO'd.

If you're interested, you guys should check out the awesome trailer on YouTube. Gives you a pretty good idea of what it's like. It sure isn't a garbage Uwe Boll video game movie.

Boll had nothing to do with the production of this film. He probably picked it up during post production.

reply

Yes, I'm sure he did having watched the movie unlike all the people who gave it "1" on here just because it's got Boll's name on it on the list of producers. It's a pretty good little film and it was in the Toronto International Film Festival, the so-called "most important" film festival in the world (Roger Ebert claims it is, who knows? big claim...), and the Vancouver International Film Festival. Absolutely no Uwe Boll movie would ever make it into any of those festivals.

I have no way of knowing, but he had to have slipped in during post production and bought his way in. This thing is so far over his head film-making wise that he couldn't have been involved otherwise. And that's not saying it's a masterpiece, but it's a good solid entertaining movie from rising director Ernie Barbarash.

reply

I really loved the movie, saw it today, It's a nice ghost story, ok it has some cliches but it doesn't have anything to do with the name Boll. When Boll will make movies as such, maybe most of us would like him, but he's a *beep* director we know it by now, and if he financed this movie, that's probably the only good thing he ever did, cinema-wise.

reply

I really liked the movie and hate almost everything Boll did so far.
I gave this a 7/10, some nice scary moments.

Too bad IMDB doesn't have an intelligence test that has to be passed before they allow these kind of retarded rejects to vote on this site. As these particular morons would never pass the test!

Perhaps then, the rating system would be a good guide to follow.

I guessing that it was funded thur the german tax loop when it was still around. Boll is an amazing producer just his directing skill are a little hit and miss. By the way Boll film his career DIDNT start with House of the Dead. He has made a few amazing, personal, non video game films.

No, I checked the internet and the tax loop was closed in Jan 2006. This movie was made in March and April of 2007. This one is legit.

Agree with you about an IQ test for commenters!
this was a well-craft horror story.
Very often all we get is gore in place of a plot and little reason for various things that happen.
this told a story and it was poignant and well-done in my opinion.
Liked your comment.

The only reason this movie has a low score is because it is utter crap.
I gave it a fair and honest chance and I never even knew the "Uwe Boll" connection until now. And frankly I don't care wether Boll was involved or not but the truth is that it sucks. Bad acting, bad story, bad directing.

Maybe I wouldn't go as low as to give it a 1 but I would certainly never go above 2.

Aren't you the most annoying thing to ever leave a womb?
Get a life!

I suppose you must have something to do with the production of this terrible film as it is the only movieforum you've ever posted in. So sorry if I stepped on your little babytoes. Want some ice for your swollen feet?

To begin with I am NOT a "Boll Basher". And as I stated earlier, I don't care if he was involved or not! I only wrote that I did not find this movie the least exciting/good. And you were clearly offended by that so maybe you should attend some kind of anger management class or sumthin.

Further on I have never EVER referenced satan or anything in the vicinity in my posts. That is a straight up lie. Please enlighten me about all my other "aliases" and what EXACTLY I've written in earlier posts that has ANYTHING to do with satanism. That is a pathetic claim and very childish. Please give me links and proof or be proven as the liar you are.

And once again, I DO NOT CARE about Boll. I just thought this movie sucked and stated my oppinion.

Please tell me, WHEN did I make up a story?
And where can I find all my satanic posts?

My guess is that you will respond with another lie or just run and hide.
(I hate beeing right all the time)

I would like to answer some of the questions and rants posted about this movie based on my understanding of the Chinese customs.

Every year, we have a ghost month which falls on the 7th month of the Lunar Calender. During this month, you will see people praying with josssticks, oranges, bowls of rice on the roadside. They will burn paper offerings to the dead. It is believed that the doors of Hell open during this period and ghosts wander on earth.

You may not believe it but many of us have seen spirits "eating" the offerings.

In this month, if you have a low luck score, you may encounter ghosts or be possessed by them.

The family speak English well because the guys mother ( Pei Pei) immigrated to the states properly 50 years ago and ran the sweat shop in her youth. English is not a difficult language to learn for asians. The guy probably went to school and university in the States and married Jaime. Then they went to work in Shanghai as expats. As the child went to international school in Shanghai, it is not strange that he can't speak chinese. His parents would have spoken English to him all the time too.

It is an ancient belief that one must return home upon death or his spirt would not rest.

Why did the ghost wait so long before manifesting? Probably because the rest of the family have had some protection against spirts in the past and the spells have lost their potency.

I am an immigrant to Canada. I speak 3 languages well. My son, who is born and bred in Canada can only speak English...

And look, now you are actually TALKING TO YOURSELF IN THIRD PERSONA. Oh my god, you must be the sorriest excuse for a living lying son of a B!tch that has ever cursed these forums and this earth!

Hope you die in a fire and burn in hell. Yeah, there's your satanism for ya, pathetic looser.

There is NO "giant ghost" in any way, shape, or form in this movie, nor one alluded to. You are lying and have not seen this movie, Boll hater.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah, there was definitely a ridiculous ghost in the first five minutes of the movie. Kinda hard to miss. That soured the rest of the movie for me.

this is exactly what I though after I watched this movie.

I agree with OP. thereforei m gicing it a 10 to dismiss some of the vote-trolls.

reply

Checking back here after a month, I see nothing has changed. Trolls win on imdb.

reply

sadly you are correct in this.

reply

I think Boll is a mess of a director, but I'd never vote on a movie I hadn't seen or vote unfairly just to *beep* with someone's score. If he made a movie I liked, I'd give it what it deserved.
