I was going to ask this same question. I believe it was filmed in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. I was there for the first time in September and both my husband and I recognized it right away.
shareYes you are correct it was Mahone Bay NS i was there this Oct for the first time also and recognized it in the opening credits. The three churches on the bay are quite often photographed. The only part that bothered me was when he said this is too small a town for a candle shop since in reality it has a huge tourist trade.
shareI'm from Nova Scotia and recognized Mahone Bay right away as well. When I checked the IMDB site for filming locations I knew there had to be more to it then just Halifax. Mahone Bay is such a beautiful place and often "stands in" for New England-y communities in films.

Most of the exterior scenes were filmed in Chester and the cast and crew stayed here. The house used for the exterior of the main character's house is next door to me.
