At the end she is walking down Hollywood street in LA and thinks "many have told me I could be an actress". She also passes a studio gate though I didn't catch the name. She fantasizes about going back to Tulsa a star with a limo to pick up her son.
I felt by the end she had learned her lesson looking for others to "take care of her" and had come to rely on her talents to make her own way in the world. But we know she has many different talents. Do you think she pursued a film career? If so what sort? Legitimate? Porno? Legitimate porno?
Jolene's story is like Marilyn Monroe's, married to a "starter" husband, followed by two more diverse husbands. And her sensuality and vulnerability were like Monroe's.
Jolene could follow in Monroe's footsteps and become a mega Hollywood success.
I wondered whether this story was based on an actual person.
I thought the actress bit was just a fantasy of hers. She was doing well as a graphic artist and I think contemplating acting was maybe just a daydream she used to not have to think about all the hardships she had faced.
All romantic, fantasy-like endings aside, fact is that people like this usually die of exposure in a back alley someplace, addicted to alcohol and abused by everyone they've ever known. This woman isn't a manipulator in charge of her destiny, she's basically a doormat.

I agree with almost everything stated here except the addiction part. Jolene wasn't an addictive personality, so if she died it would probably be by the hands of some abusive erotimaniac. I'm disappointed she didn't see the signs and leave Tulsa altogether while she and Brad were dating. He was clearly a jerk. Interesting story, though.

Where do you get doormat? She did what she wanted to do. And she mentions in her narrative that she "probably" hurt the first husband, his uncle, prison guard, Coco...she was most definitely a manipulator. Not that the character is unlikeable, or evil. She just went after what she wanted.
Jolene didn't have the looks to become an actress, so it would come down to acting ability. I mean the actresses that make it that look like her (plain face and flat body), have some acting skill. So we have no way of knowing if she'd make it in Hollywood, because we don't know if she had acting ability or not.
