Why do most movie assassins fire just one shot?

In many Hit Man films, including this one, the assassin fires just one shot. Wouldn't it make more sense to empty the clip? I would suspect that some special assassin rifles only use one big bullet at a time. I know this is kind of stupid, but it always bothers me, when I see just a single shot. In the old gangster days, it was always one shot in the head and one shot in the stomach. I guess one shot is cooler, like a one puch knockout.

I would hazard a guess that, the more shots fired the greater chance of your location being discovered. Typical sniper logic is, one to two shots then change locations, so I would figure an assassin would have similar strategy, plus I guess it looks more professional if they do the job in 1 shot.

As far as the gangster days, the mob hit was generally meant to send a message, hence the two shot method, body shot for the message or just to slow the target down and head shot for the confirmed kill or something like that.

But then, this is just pure speculation....

Because any fool can empty a clip into a person. Doing it with a single shot is meant to convey an assassin's skill and expertise, which separates them from the common thugs you'll most likely find in the same movie. One of the cool things from the otherwise uncool movie 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' was Sean Connery's quote: "If you can't do it with one bullet, don't do it at all".

Oh, and one shot is more difficult to trace. Assuming that the assassin had to make a speedy getaway following the kill (like in "Two Tigers"), firing for a prolonged period of time from a fixed location will alert everybody to where he/she is.

I agree with terrorvator almost completely - but -in this film anyway , both
times Gilda Robbins takes her one shot the spot she fired from seems to be
found out quite easily - granted this isn't exactly filmed in "real time" but
still we are shown her sniping place being found right away .
One thing that bugged me was in the first kill ,she gets on a powerful motor
bike and screams off -making a lot of noise in the process .seems like a speedy
QUIET get-a-way would be better ?
figure it this way -no one HEARS the gun shot -she uses a silencer -so the
sound of spinning wheels and a high powered machine leaving the area is a
clue ?

Plus, just having to buy the ammo, probly on the black market could be pricy.

Using a sniper rifle, it's one shot one kill. If you're not that good, then you don't use it. More than one shot gives away your location, and slows down your escape. High power, high velocity round, to track better.

Using a handgun? Double tap. First you knock your target down with the easy chest hit, then a second to the head, just to be sure. Revolvers are better (They retain the casings).

Need stealth? Walk up behind the target with a negative curve tanto. Weak hand over their mouth, then with your strong hand, reach around to your weak side and drive the blade into their neck just below the digastric muscle and hyoid bone. Pull across hard and fast. Messy, but quiet and instant.

One thing they always get wrong in movies; you don't dress ominously in all black. Instead, you look like every other person around.
Also, you don't pack your rifle in a giant case. And you don't run out and speed away, tires screeching. Walk away quietly.

FYI, it's rare you'd use a sniper rifle, unless the target is ultra high security. Normally you'd improvise, using a variety of instruments, and methods. Anyone using a single weapon, especially something as specialized and expensive as a breakdown rifle is too easy to trace. No pattern, no trail.

You're exactly right. Thats what the Kidon assassins said. For anyone unfamiliar with kidon. They're the assassin wing of Mossad. Basically like the special activities division of CIA.Like the SAD they only recruit from special forces. I'm sure you heard of their Munich revenge assassinations or the more recent Dubai assassination. They never used sniper rifles. It was always bombs, close killing, etc. But they're are very well planned out for when someone is most vulnerable. The last assassination they killed that Hamas leader in his hotel room, ate his room service then left.
