Only White People Can Really Enjoy Dane Cook...

Haha, okay so I threw that title out there to get people in the thread. I'm not trying to be racist towards white people, black people, any group at all, nor am I saying that Dane Cook is racist or nething like that. I'm just saying that his material seems as if it could only be related to by white audiences or at least predominantly white audiences.

Agree or disagree? (I'm not white by the way and I don't really find him funny, which isn't proof of anything but I feel my statement may be true). What do other people think?

I semi-agree with you. But, I think that every comedian has a certain racial group that gets the majority of his jokes; generally, his own race.

So, I kind of agree with you, but I don't think Dane Cook is alone in that regard.

If it matters, I'm white.

I love dane cook. i think he's hilarious...i'm not white. :)

Just like I love the heck outta Chris Rock and I'm not black. Good comedy transcends racial boundaries.

ummm....

so I'm black and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE DANE COOK! He's hilarious!! I love him. I don't think it has anything to do with race.

If you think he's funny, he's funny. If you don't, that's you. Everyone has their own preference.

What a lame post. Cook doesnt talk about anything that's central to only white people. His humor is pretty general and anyone can relate to it, regardless of race, age or social class. I was in a sports bar that had Vicious Circle on and we may have well been in a comedy club because everybody in the bar was watching and laughing, no matter who they were.

I'm black and I love Dane to death. And I agree with everyone else that most of the stuff he talks about, most people can relate to that. Like the thing he says about going to the mirror to look at yourself when you cry really hard. I literally yelled at the T.V. screen "OMG, I DO THAT!" You can just relate to him. That's why I love him so much. So yeah, race really doesn't matter.

Not true, I have black friends who likes him.

I'm white and have never heard a funny thing from him... don't know if that relates, but just tossin' it out there.

yeah, and cowtown im geussing you're from Calgary? Anyways I am also white and don't really find Dane Cook funny at all. Foir like the first 30 minutes of this DVD I didn't laugh once. I laughed a couple times later on when he's talking about one night stands and like other stuff but overall I found this DVD pretty weak. I raelly like Dave Chapelle and he's black so I dunno I'm kinda reverse to the only white people thing.

I recently saw his DVD Vicious Circle, and I thought he was funny; not hilarious, but funny. Also, Chris Rock says that he finds Dane Cook very funny.

I think that every comic has a certain demographic that a majority of their audience will find everything funny; but some in their audience (outside of that demographic) will find only portions of their material funny.

I don't think a comic has existed since the 60's who has not upset or alienated a certain group (race, gender, national origin, or religion) in one way or another.

i dont know, i thought it was a valid statement, and one that could be debated. i dont necessarily think its his actual comic content that doesnt translate, i actually think its his manner of humor and the way he enacts his humor.

i just thought his shows were similiar to a boston red sox game at fenway park. you just never see black people in the audience. i'm not white, and i chill wit diverse people, and we just don't see it (although my white friends love him).

im 17 black and puerto rican, all my friends are black hispanic or some type of minority, with exception to 2 kids who are half white, we all find dane hillarious, some of them deal drugs and commit crimes , some make comics, some play xbox live all day, some focus on sports, some are going to college , and most if not all do a mixture of these things and more, it doesnt have to be chirs rock or def comey for us to laugh, i like ck lewis, pablo francisco, bill maher and may others, we have brains and can think, not that im thaking that offensive but come on be serious, and im not gonna ask nbc to fire you either. thats my 2 cents
