Dane Cook and Jim Gaffigan

I've heard some very negative comments about Dane Cook for a while now and I think it mainly for a few reasons. I've heard people say that Dane only made it because of his looks and because girls and drunk frat guys like him but these people are forgetting the one rule in comedy that every comedian knows, funny is funny. If Dane Cook gets laughs, which he does, if he sells out his venues, which he does, then he is doing something right. I personally am not a big Dane Cook fan, he has made me chuckle a few times but I much prefer to watch Jim Gaffigan. Gaffigan keeps me laughing and one thing I admire about Gaffigan's comedy is he makes it look so easy. Gaffigan's New bit on Waffle House is hilarious! But I'm sure tons of Dane Cook fans might find Gaffigan boring or not that funny. My point is everybody has their taste, especially when it comes to comedy. Some like shock comics who swear alot and talk about controversial things, then you have the redneck crowd, I know alot of people, black, white, and other who think black comics are the funniest of them all. I myself love Richard Pryor and George Wallace. You then have comics like Jerry Seinfield. Seinfield is funny but he is completely different from Gaffigan and Cook. I personally put Rodney Dangerfield up as my favorite comic of all time. I think the best comics are the ones of have a unique style such as Gaffigan, Cook, and Rodney. My point is, you cannot sell out Madison Square Garden like Cook has done if you do not have something going for you.

I like a wide variety of comics from the relatively clean(Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Gaffigan) to the outrageous and controversial(Sam Kinison, even Dice Clay in his heyday). I just don't find Dane Cook that funny at all. I've laughed at a few of his jokes or stories but they are very few and far between. I just don't get the hysteria over his comedy, I find Daniel Tosh to be far more clever. But I guess you don't necessarily have to have talent to be rich and popular i.e. Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson.
