overrated?

My friend thinks the Dane Cook is overrated. He thinks that he uses flamboyant motions, and eccentric phases to cover up otherwise bland jokes. I on the other hand feel that his original presentation enhances his jokes. How do you feel, is he overrated or does he deserve the credit he is given. Please provide an argument to back up your answer, I don't wanna hear things like DaNe CoOk SuX a BiG oNe !!!!!!111111

Yes, I think he's overrated. He doesn't make any solid jokes and his transitions are awful. Some of them are okay, but most of the time, one part of the skit doesn't seem to fit with the rest of it. It's like he can't decide what to leave in, what to improve, and what to get rid of entirely. Nothing he does is subtle, and he uses way too many of those movements and phases. In addition, he laughs during his own skits and loses focus too easily.

Most of his fans (based on what I've seen) are 15-25 year old women who either think he's damn-sexy or have never seen real comedy...

you are clearly either a 12 year old, a snob, a man over 40, or someone who just wants to piss people off. Dane is not overrated he tells jokes that many people between the ages 14-30 can relate to to. I enjoy comedy of all types and the people who don't like Dane seem to be older white people who love Chris Rock for talking about how black people suck. Dane is not subtle just like Steve martin and he has no transitions just like Rodney Dangerfield. The comedian he reminds me most of though is a young George Carlin because they both have stories where they go into devianting jokes and they have no transitions.

And I thought George Carlin actually did intelligent comedy.

Dane Cook can actually move his feet, unlike many other stand-up comedians

Yea because when George Carlin first came out with jokes people other than college kids thought he was funny, oh wait no they didn't they thought he was terrible and thought non of his jokes were funny. Lets take a look at some of George Carlin's excellent movies such as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Bill and Ted's Bogus Adventure, Jersey Girl, Dogma, Tarzan II (which I did not know existed), clearly George Carlin makes much better movie choices. I am not sure where jokes are supposed to go I just thought they were supposed to be funny but lets look at some of George Carlin's jokes such as "The International House of Pancakes left me a note here and it says, *beep* Waffles."

I am not saying I like Dane Cook more than George Carlin, I'M NOT SAYIN THAT MAN, what I am saying is Dane Cook is a pretty funny guy even though most adults don't think so, and that is what happens. Adults just like what they had growing up more than what kids nowadays have.

I think he's overrated, yes.

Although, to be fair, I've only seen the Comedy Central cut of Vicious Circle. It's very possible that if I saw different shows I would think he was a lot funnier.

But judging from that, he just isn't that funny. Every now and then he'll say something and I think, "Oh, hehe, that's kinda funny." But usually it's just... bland. And there was one bit in there that I found rather offensive and I thought really just revealed a complete lack of intelligence (I know, comedy can be offensive, it's part of it, and I need to "suck it up and deal with it", but this bit was just... not funny. it got laughs, in my opinion, only because it played on the overall population's hate and fear for a VERY small and VERY persecuted segment of society)

I can see why some people would think he's funny, and really the only reason I could say I dislike him is because of that one particular bit, but he certainly isn't my taste at all. I like complex, dark, and clean humor, and he just doesn't fit the bill.

So you're basing your opinion on him being overrated on just watching Vicious Cicle?...next time you have an idea to post...just let it go. Do you actually know what overrated means?, if anything Dane deserves the acclaim, he's released five comedy albums and Retaliation became the highest charting comedy album in 28 years...it went double platinum. And that was before all the movies and SNL appearance.

Sure, I'll bite, which bit was it?.

I like complex, dark, and clean humor, and he just doesn't fit the bill.

Dark and yet clean?....from a comedian?, maybe you don't understand what comedians talk about. Or maybe you just need to be spoon fed more Jeff Dunham or Larry the cable guy. Or maybe you just missed the Brain Ninja's bit, which was complex and dark.

I'm wondering , which comics do you actually enjoy?. I know George Carlin, Robin Williams, Greg Giraldo, and Richard Pryor aren't going to be on that list, since they are all "dirty".

He is hugely overrated. I used to love dane cook, when he was good, around 2001 when he did his comedy central presents. That had great delivery and good jokes, but now he just stands on stage doing silly voices for jokes that on their own are bad.

It wasnt me, it was a hologram! = *beep*

Dane cook throwing water on himself and doing an alien impression = hilarity.

People loved him when he was all slapstick and wild (the tank top meathead Dane). Even bland jokes like the Alien spit or the Christ Chex, were thought of as funny, mauinly due to his stage presence. He lost the aura if you will, but I still enjoy his jokes, as they are topical and easy to relate to.

Overrated?...hes a comedian...thats all he does. Making jokes is his mileu. Is tying your sneakers overrated?. What exactly people expecting?
