Confused about Prudie and the guy at school

Sorry, I didn't pay as close attention as I should have, but is he a student and she's a teacher? Is she breaking a law?

reply

yes she is, both legally and morally. in america you have to be between 16 and 18 to be of legel consent (depending on the state), trey is in high school so would likely be around this age which makes it immoral to start with, then theres the issue of teacher/student relations which are very clear all over the world, there is a line you dont cross. hope this clears it up :)

Trey mentions that he is 18.

He's 18 and, unless I am mistaken, their planned hook-up was to take place in the July segment of the film, so he would already have graduated. The dilemma she is facing is not so much legal, rather whether to cheat on her husband.

Unless I am mistaken (and missed that part), we do not see Prudie admit to her husband that she kissed one of her students. I was surprised that she didn't tell him because personally, this would be a big deal for me and I was curious to see what her husband's reaction to this would be.

OMG no, she should never tell her husband about the kiss. I don't think Dean would really forgive her. Even if he did, it would always hang over their heads.

I'm usually a big fan of honesty is the best policy...but not in this case. Telling him about the kiss would only hurt them both unnecessarily. This is one of those rare cases where what he doesn't know won't hurt him...that is as long as she never throws it in his face next time they have a big fight as many real women would do...

Marriage is love, trust, honesty and commitment. Honesty "is" the best policy; especially in a marriage. As her husband, he deserved to know. I suspected he already knew something was up. As far as thinking that telling him would hurt them both, the only one it would hurt is him. Yes it would hurt their marriage but that was the choice she made in kissing Trey. The husband had a right to know and the right to determine for himself whether his marriage was worth saving or end it with a woman who obviously didn't value it very much. You can say she did by not telling him but in that respect she was being selfish and dishonest. By not telling him, if by chance he should find out later, its much worse. In that case the marriage would definitely be ruined because honesty and trust would be lost.

Trey was indeed 18, but their student-teacher kiss came during the school year. If not technically illegal, certainly a fireable offense.
