I enjoyed it, but the characters sucked.

From the absurd idea that a sexy cartoon character would literally hypnotise a hacker into doing anything, to the extreme level of unrealistic dumbness used to fool an internet cafe owner, this type of acting (or should I say writing?) is typical of a B-grade movie.

* Annie had no place in the movie at all. The relationship between her and Will was so unbelievable. They met hours before escaping together, somehow forming a loving relationship, all while knowing his mother was kidnapped, his best friend missing and his own life at risk. He has time to ask stupid teen love things like "so you really think he's hot?" just after finding out his mother's in danger. The producers or writers threw in all these building blocks to create a relationship out of absolutely nothing which, to me, ruined it.

* Who gets out of a plane, about to take off, to look for a friend? Moreso, which airline/field trip teacher would allow a passenger/student to alight from a waiting plane? A quick and nasty way of making a character walk into a trap, it seems.

* The subway scene where Will and Annie nearly get hit by a passing train was funny. The way he protected her from the train was something I can't imagine anyone would do. You'd be next to eachother hard-pressed against the wall, not on top of someone else who is already hard-pressed against the wall. His backpack was like 2 inches from the train by doing this. Yet another heroic teen love building block.

* I found the questions Will was asking to the professor that rescued him were just weird. A teenage hacker saying things like "I know your kids are probably grown up by now, but it seems a shame to deprive them of a little more time" with a really concerned and sad look on his face like he's some sort of counsellor and actually cares about the fate of some guy he doesn't even know, is just laughable. Shortly after he thought the professor was taking out a weapon, which was actually a fuel funnel, so he clearly didn't know or trust him well enough.

* The professor planned the entire trip, from sandwiches and coffee to spare fuel and supplies. Yet he didn't have a way to get into the power station compound. I suppose it could be a common error, but this guy is not stupid. He couldn't have taken a key? He didn't pre-call the caretaker before going out of cell range? Please...

The over-the-top computer graphics and demon government stereotypes I can live with, and I expect that in most fictional movies based around computers, specifically gaming. But the acting/writing - what a mess!
