I wonder if the writer toyed with the idea of including a scene where we find out, or at least have hints, that he is a god. Maybe they did write one, they filmed it, but it got cut. Most likely not, though.

Not a god. He used common sense and intelligence to perform the miracles and irv-a-cal advice.
When he met his wife on the beach, it's because he was close to dying and meeting up with her again permanently.
buy irv didn't die, he went to a hospital and it appeared at the end that he would be ok.

Irv is Zeus. Here is the body of evidence. He joked at the piano about being god. After the blessing, Barnaby didn't have to use a walker. If you remember your mythology, Zeus and Hera fought constantly. Irv makes it quite clear that he and Elinore argued a lot. Zeus was known to appear on Earth to traffic with human women. terry-f-graham, you are correct.
