Kind of an '80s movie feel

Movies like Willow, The Goonies, The Neverending Story...
I love those movies, but if they were to come out today for the first time, they would get the same reaction this movie did.
Average protagonists vs fantastic antagonists, helped by great actors that were delegated to sidekick status.

Only thing that bothered me, was The White Witch. She was beautiful, but her acting was as atrocious as her wig.

Overall, I really liked this movie because it has great fighting scenes but wasn't too serious/ gory. Plus, I don't recall Jet Li smiling as he was in this movie as the Monkey King in any other movie. It was nice to see a different side of him.

Yeah watching reminded me in the beginning of TNES.

It did seem so dated. I don't even mean in a bad way, it just seemed like it was filmed in 1988. The lead kid even seemed like a Fred Savage knockoff.
