Excellent and underrated

While i can see how people would hate this movie, i found it to be quite subtle and good. Having read the book i can say with conviction that the film is VERY different yet more the same than other adaptations of Ellis' work. i really did enjoy the way the stories wove together and how (like Donnie Darko) the fact that the film took place in the 80's wasn't a gimic used make jokes. i think this is a great film that people have a hard time understanding.

I liked this movie better than Donnie Darko but not better than The Rules of Attraction. But this movie was very good. I still dont know if they should of added the vampires or not.

This film has really grown on me.
The first time, I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but after watching it a few times, I too believe it to be underrated.

The dark humor has a place, and yet it moves into more serious drama seamlessly.
The music was great and it was really beautiful to look at.
Gregor Jordan knows how to make people look gorgeous, that's for sure.

Why do you comapre this with Donnie Darko? I don't see anything that these movies have in common.

I for one love this movie. It is a snap shot of LA in the 80 where it is filled with hedonism. Everything was live today and have fun now. It has something for everyone from winners to losers to never did (or will) well. Sad it came to a crashing end with AIDS.

I LOVE this movie! My friend and I saw it TWICE in the THEATERS ... and we were the only ones there both times! =D

Since then, I've watched the DVD numerous times.

i would say it's underrated to at it's current 5.1/10 average with 14,048 votes. i would say high 5's or very low 6's sound about right (say roughly 5.7-6.2) for the average.

i gave it a solid 6/10 (closer to a 6.5 than a 5.5) as i just finished seeing it for the second time now on Dec 9th 2015 as my initial viewing of it was back on June 13th 2012 and it held steady.

i like the general mood/feel of the movie. but at the same time i can see why many might not care for the movie given the characters are generally unhappy because of their lifestyle/choices so much of the movie gives off more of a negative vibe/tone to it.
