So there's no chance of a Second Series (as you Brits call it) ever?

This is a phenomenal show. I shouldn't be cancelled.

I've always thought of the general American audience as big, fat retards who like their TV as dumbed down as possible (i.e.: American Gladiators, Flavor of Love, Laguna Beach, The Hills, The Simple Life, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, The Girls Next Door, et al.). But you Brits, you people are much more sophisticated and smart. Don't let this mind-bending show get cancelled! I don't know, send thousands of pounds of nuts to the network or something!

And by the way, for those of you wondering, I'm Venezuelan: born, raised, and have lived down here my whole life.

reply

The show is dead and gone I'm afraid. Although shot in the UK with an all-British cast, it was actually a British/American co-production, but it failed to achieve successful ratings in either country.

You listed a few bad reality shows and then bash all Americans for being stupid. You should try watching Lost, House, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Big Love, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Prison Break, Heroes, 24 or one of the other many wonderful scripted shows that are made in America.

reply

American shows are better than what we make here in England, the American influence made Cape Wrath good!!

CURB is genius; that's the best show going!

reply

Americans produce some of the best television in the world, and I watch dozens of American TV shows. In fact, that's all I watch, as Venezuelan (and Latin American in general, I'm afraid) TV is just crap.

Also, I didn't bash *all* Americans, but the 'general' TV audience. And them being stupid is a fact that even Americans themselves acknowledge. Now, not that it's any of you bussiness, but here's a list of the shows I watch/have watched:

Comedies:
Sex & the City. Seinfeld. Friends. Frasier. Will & Grace. Veronica's Closet. That 70's Show. Everybody Loves Raymond. The Nanny. Curb Your Enthusiasm. Flight of the Conchords. Califonication. Weeds. South Park. Desperate Housewives. Pushing Daisies. Ugly Betty. The Office (US). My Name is Earl. 30 Rock. Scrubs. The Simpsons. Family Guy. American Dad!. King of the Hill. Two and a Half Men. The New Adventures of Old Christine. Everybody Hates Chris.

Dramas:
Six Feet Under. The OC. Jack & Bobby. In Treatment. Tell Me You Love Me. Dexter. The Tudors. Nip/Tuck. Breaking Bad. Lost. Grey's Anatomy. Private Practice. Brothers & Sisters. Eli Stone. Dirty Sexy Money. Law & Order: SVU. Gossip Girl.

Non-Fiction/Variety:
Da Ali G Show. The Man Show. Whose Line is It Anyway?. Real Time with Bill Maher. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The Colbert Report. The Soup. Chelsea Lately. Dr. 90210. The Mole. Extreme Makeover (The original plastic surgery show). Saturday Night Live. Survivor. American Idol. Medical Detectives. Many shows on Discovery Networks: Channel, Home & Health, Travel & Living, Animal Planet.

Only a few of those have been audience hits, I'm afraid, while most of the crappy 'reality' shows I mentioned have a huge audience.

reply

Gah! Dirty Sexy Money was terriable, i hope C4 doesn't re-commission it.

reply

Uhm, dude, it's not up to C4. It's up to America's ABC, which has already ordered a second 'series' of that great show.

reply

Uhm, dude, it is however upto C4 to decide which shows they want to commission from other networks. So ABC can make 10 'seasons' if they want but I reckon the above guy will be happiest if C4 doesn't show them.

With your feet on the air and your head on the ground, try this sig with spinach, yeah!

Since you seem to like American TV try to get a hold of The Wire an excellent drama that ran five seasons (series) on HBO. Some of your list are really shows off the BBC relabeled.

i'm a brit and i think this just shows how quality tv largely just isn't supported by the system we have in the UK. i can't think of a single adult sci-fi/mystery show that has survived past the first season.
cape wrath was the first show i've seen that io thought could stand up to the likes of lost and twin peaks made by our overseas friends.

there is a vast audience of brits who watch nothing but american made shows. that is not because we prefer americans or anything like that, its because the shows are of better quality. all of our channels are cowards. and stupid buisnessmen. there is an audience out there just gagging for quality english shows. dvd sales would be massive. and you cannot judge a show by giving it only 6 eps. we need to adopt the 24 ep system to really give our talent a chance.

the reason cape wrath didn't do so well was only PR.

This was one of the best original shows from a premium channel in a long time. Had I known it was going to be canceled I would have left the episodes on my DVR. I wish they released the episodes on DVD. I am confident that lack of advertising was a major issue in its rating failure.
