I'm Confused on something

I know Meadowlands is a witness protection place. And I know in the past there was a fire. Do they say in the episode why they were sent there? What was there crime that made them go there?

From what i remember its never been said yet.. all we got was flashbacks of the fire so far.

I'm confused about something too.. Does the witness relocation program always blind fold their protectees, then release them in front of their home in a scene that looks like a conspiracy plot? If I ever notice that in my neighborhood should I get in touch with the mob for a payoff?.

reply

I thought Eddy took money from some bad people and now he's a witness for the prosecution against those bad people and the police (or whomever) tucked them in Meadowlands for safekeeping since obviously they weren't safe wherever they were before because their house was set on fire. That's what I think so far has happened.

reply

I'm confused too, but I think that's the point. They are giving a tiny bit of information at a time so you won't really know what's going on until later. Who's GOOD? Who's BAD? I think "The Meadowlands" is some creepy gated community where EVERYONE is in witness relocation. The question NOW is, Who is really running this place? Is it the Government? Is it a mob run community? Who Knows? It's a little like a creepier version of "The Riches" (not exactly but some of the themes are similar).

You expect them to tell you everything in the first episode?

Wouldn't be much point of having a part two really if they did that.

reply

no i didnt expect that. I thought though the mother said something about a guy and then when they were yelling shes like there u go again lieing. So i thought i would ask the people here to help me out on what they were talking about becuase i was confused. So no...i didnt expect everything to happen in the firt episode.

Well I am from the states and I know witness protection isn't as nice as it looks in this show. They dump in some place in the mid west with minimal amount of money and they forget about you. It is suppose to be the pits. I hear people are always leaving WP because they can't find a way to make a living. In any case the wife blurted out why they were there she said in so many words that he took money for that club he had from some criminals. I would guess the UK version of the Mafia. She said in the scene when she told her husband she didn't want to work at the new club. I bet the fire had something to do with them coming after them. So they were put in WP. The funny thing about this show is that The Meadowlands in a big sports complex in NJ and I thought the show was set in that area, which is right outside of NYC... until they opened their mouths

Yes and it is very rare a person goes into the WP program. But the vast majority of people in WP in the states are mob oriented. Button men etc. remember Sammy the Bull, who worked for John Gotti. and he was in WP running a drug business and got locked up for it. He is you typical WP person. I just read the other posters letter and the background of that guy is pretty typical. But one must understand nice people do not take mob money. So ths Danny person is not angel.

The whole idea is each episode gives another character's backstory (their crimes...). According to showtime's site, Eddie's background is:

Three years ago Eddie Foy opened Foy's Bar with the help of an investment from a criminal source. The place was a success, a destination for a hip, affluent crown who loved Eddie. However, he fell deeper in with his criminal backers, and one night came home to find his house ablaze and his son trapped inside. The boy escaped with only badly burned hands, but to protect his family, Eddie had only one choice: testify against his criminal associates and enter a witness protection program, relocating to Meadowlands and assuming the name Danny Brogan to keep his past a secret.

(Phew!)

I would check out the site (Jack's history is there, some info on the other criminals, etc.). They've put a lot of work into it which leads me to believe showtime isn't going to give up on the show after one season. I loved "Brotherhood," but I was very shocked it was renewed due to low viewership.

As a friend of mine noted (improperly, IMO) showtime ought to capitalize on the end of "Sopranos" and market this as the next thing - they're now in witness protection...he had no idea it was British. I think it might hook some people in (if they give the show ten minutes, they'll be hooked).

HTnaks for the background. I remmber his wife mentioned he toolk money frm criminals to runhis bar. My assumption is that no one there is a innocent. Like I was saying to the other person, Good people do not take mob money. I would like to take some guess's about who some of these people use to be.. Based on what happens in the states. All criminals are the same no matter where they are at.

In the states most of the people in WP are mob oriented, button men, low level confidants. Or high leval confidants. But most had dealings with the mob, because WP is a federal program and usually the Mob gets prosecuted by the feds under Rico. Not too many bank robber in WP,lol.
I will take a guess and say Brenda was a girlfriend of some mob boss. The feds always go after the girlfriends before the wives because the grlfriends know more secrets.
Jackson probably was a button man or a enforcer. because he is pretty young. I doubt he was a big wig in the mob. But had a lot of info.
Dr York, Well the mob always has a some doctor they use for accidents they do not want on the record. So they go to these back street doctors.
The guy who is the cop. I thin he was a mob boss or at least had a big job in the mob. Remember how he got those clamps out to stop those guys from smoking. This ss not your run of the mill cop here.

I think Evelyn was just as bad as Danny because she worked at the club and knew where he got the money. I bet she was a social butterfly. That is why the guy is so easy to flirt with her, He appeals to her need to be the center of attention. I believe they have someway planted that him to do and she is responding Remeber his wife said I never knew you sang. Well he normally doesn't. ANother scene which makes me feel more and more that there is osme mind control going on.

I just hope this show is better then that god awful Tudors. In retrospect the show was good but it sank under the ad actor and casting of the lead.
Funnny thing is the title the meadowlands made me think it was some mob oriented tv series. I had no idea what it was about.
