The 'Grumpy Robot Machine'

The deal with the grumpy robot machine was several shows had robot sidekicks aiming for R2D2 and C3PO, but there were other sidekicks.

The sidekick back then was supposed to be 'comedy relief' and in case attacking lemons with wires for hands was construed as too ridiculous, then the comedy relief would call it out and the kids would like the sidekick for being so observant and the show would be less corny.

Clearly the complaining sidekick was instead viewed as being overly hostile.

One of the worst I recall was one of the little gnomes-dwarves-whatever they were on the cartoon Blackstar. He had seven of them like the dwarves.

One talked like Walter Brennan and he was always making grumpy remarks.

"We've got to stop the bad guy!" someone would say.

"I'm gettin' outta here!" he would respond with.

It's amusing to me how the comedy relief, which was supposed to be making wise-cracks, was instead interpreted as being grumpy.

So what does this say for all the comedy remarks like Eddie Murphy and everyone else makes in movies?

I already concluded long ago Adam Sandler had some massively suppressed hostility about him. I didn't see a thing he did as funny.
