Why wasn't David Hyde Pierce cast as Mr. Peabody?

As it was, all Ty Burrell did was a pale imitation of him anyway...

YES!

I've said the same thing. Pierce seemed to be blatantly imitating Peabody during his years on "Frasier;" he should have been the first choice.

reply

Who said he wasn't the first choice? Maybe he was the first choice but was already committed to another project. He does a lot of stage work too.

Because this isn't the 90's.

Pierce has the perfect voice for Peabody. He pretty much did it as Niles Crane.

reply

Exactly! David Hyde Pierce would have made a perfect Mr. Peabody.

Because Dreamworks has no idea how to do voice casting. They don't look for voice actors to breathe life into a character; they look for stars and base the character around those celebrities. Ty Burrell is developing quite the following on Modern Family, so he is becoming a big enough name to headline a movie. Dreamworks doesn't care that the voice didn't suit the character. They just try to make money off of celebrities. Their history demonstrates this.

I like Ty Burrell, but I think people would rather see a well-cast voice actor than a star. After all, how many people even knew or cared that Burrell was the voice of Peabody? David Hyde Pierce would have been the best choice.

I thought Ty Burrell did a good job, but thinking about it, DHP would've been marvelous.

I watched it Christmas Day with my Niece and Nephew and had no idea going in who voiced Mr. Peabody. My guess as it got going was Michael Emerson, and I was surprised when I learned it was Ty Burrell.

David Hyde Pierce never crossed my mind, but he would've been a good choice. Though TBH I thought Burrell and the kid who did the voice of Sherman were both quite good.
