So this is Dogtor Who?

A dog with a time machine?

Ok then...

reply

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer. I have no idea why that guy wrote that long post about Sonic.

reply

Maybe because of The Doctor's sonic screwdriver? IDK

reply

I see it as being like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Didn't even think of Doctor Who.

reply

Well Jay Ward may have had some inspiration from The Doctor, but Bill &Ted definitely took inspiration from both The Doctor and Mr Peabody's Improbable History.

reply

how was Jay Ward inspired by a show that didn't even exist yet? Since Peabody pre-dated Dr. Who by 4 years, and was in fact off the air a year before Dr. Who ever aired, think it might be more accurate to say that the Doctor may have taken some inspiration from Peabody

reply

The original cartoon didn't show the WABAC as a red sphere. I couldn't help but think that it was designed that way for the movie to be sort of an opposite to Doctor Who's blue box.

Incidentally, I wore a DW themed t-shirt when I went to see MP&S.

reply

Kuddos for wearing a DW shirt. Which one?

reply

It is from a cartoon short called "Peabody's Improbable History" on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

reply

No, this is Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Two characters spawned from a TV show that came on back in the Bullwinkle Show. This came on in late 50s and early 60s. So in general, this was BEFORE Doctor Who was actually invented. So now to my conclusion, it is NOT, as you roughly state, "DOGtor Who".

The Woof of Wall Street

But there IS a trailer that makes some tongue-in-cheek references to the show. I'm not sure whether it's a UK trailer or not, but here you go:

reply

It most probably is a UK spot.

I love the Doctor Who reference! It's relevant, spot-on, and the revamped WABAC (now a flying craft, as opposed to an electric door) is a lot like the TARDIS (except that the interior is proportionate to the exterior). It's no crime to compare Mr. Peabody to Doctor Who (even though, naturally, the former predated the latter).

"Dog-tor Who," indeed. :)

reply

As many people have mentioned: Mr. Peabody and Sherman has been around longer than Doctor Who. I don't the two are really related, but both do feature a time traveling genius with a companion. I doubt Doctor Who was really inspired by it.

reply

Spot on. But the original predated Doctor Who.

reply

Guys, it's a pun, a really bad pun that nearly gave me a headache from its awfulness, but a pun nevertheless.

"I have been felt up, stalked, and called Taylor Swift. Could you please just cut me some slack?!"

reply

No, it's a really really great pun.

-sometimes I feel like I'm on everyone's ignore list 

reply

"Doctor Who" didn't invent the concept of time travel, you know.

reply

Seems like everyone is sort of missing your pun and going to literal on it.

Or at least that is what I think.

I love the Dogtor pay on words.
