Both could have tried harder in their marriage

When I first saw this film I truly hatted the duke and blamed him Completely for their loveless marriage but now I think Georgina could have done more too.

Sure he didn't help at all at the beginning with his attitude but maybe she could have tried more to seduce her Husband and ask him to be kinder when they were together or when she met bess she could have asked her to help her to make the duke care more for G

Bess just wanted her kids back so the duke gets bored of her, she gets her kids back and help a marriage to work without a scandal, if I'm right at the beginning Georgina found the duke attractive and he said she was beautiful.

So with some help their marriage could have worked

They weren't married in the modern sense, that is a union between two people who love, or at least care about each other.

It was established at the start of the movie that Georgiana was nothing more than a brood mare, who should avoid scandal.

You do realize that this wasn't a marriage as we term it today? It was a contract. She even got a check for having a son. My husband didn't give me a check for having a son. Imagine meeting someone only twice and then being married to that person. You don't like that person. There's no working on it.

Moreover, it was expected back then that the husband would keep mistresses, and *generally* accepted that women could take lovers after producing a couple of sons.

Try harder to seduce her husband? The OP needs to read a few history books.
